Former KGB spy makes explosive claims Donald Trump

A former spy for the KGB is making explosive claims about Russia's efforts to "cultivate" former President Donald Trump as an intelligence asset.

In an interview with the Guardian, former KGB official Yuri Shvets claims that the then-Soviet government starting in the 1980s began to see Trump as a potential instrument for spreading anti-NATO propaganda.

In fact, Shvets says that Soviet agents even planted the idea of running for office in Trump's head when he visited St. Petersburg and Moscow in 1987.

"For the KGB, it was a charm offensive," he explains. "They had collected a lot of information on his personality so they knew who he was personally. The feeling was that he was extremely vulnerable intellectually, and psychologically, and he was prone to flattery."

Shortly after Trump's trip to the USSR, he took out a major advertisement in the New York Times, Washington Post, and Boston Globe, in which he questioned why America should be paying for the security of NATO countries.

"The bizarre intervention was cause for astonishment and jubilation in Russia," the Guardian writes. "A few days later Shvets, who had returned home by now, was at the headquarters of the KGB's first chief directorate in Yasenevo when he received a cable celebrating the ad as a successful "active measure" executed by a new KGB asset."

Although Trump throughout his first term was notoriously friendly with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he also took multiple actions that angered the Kremlin, such as his decision to launch missiles into Russian ally Syria in 2017 for its use of chemical weapons on civilians.

Author Craig Unger, who used Shvets as a key source for his upcoming book American Kompromat, tells the Guardian that Russia did not have some grand long-term conspiracy to make Trump president, but rather lucked into Trump's presidency through a series of unlikely events.

"It was not this grand, ingenious plan that we're going to develop this guy and 40 years later he'll be president," he says. "At the time it started, which was around 1980, the Russians were trying to recruit like crazy and going after dozens and dozens of people."

    https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/11/19/trump-first-moscow-trip-215842

In The Art of the Deal, Trump writes: “In January 1987, I got a letter from Yuri Dubinin, the Soviet ambassador to the United States, that began: ‘It is a pleasure for me to relay some good news from Moscow.’ It went on to say that the leading Soviet state agency for international tourism, Goscomintourist, had expressed interest in pursuing a joint venture to construct and manage a hotel in Moscow.”.......

Once in Moscow, they would receive lavish hospitality. “Everything is free. There are good parties with nice girls. It could be a sauna and girls and who knows what else.” The hotel rooms or villa were under “24-hour control,” with “security cameras and so on,” Suvorov said. “The interest is only one. To collect some information and keep that information about him for the future.”........

Suvorov explained: “It’s at this point you say: ‘Knock, knock! Do you remember the marvelous time in Moscow? It was a wonderful evening. You were so drunk. You don’t remember? We just show you something for your good memory.’”

Continuing to go down this rabbit hole is a fool's errand. It gives the GOP false equivalence ammo when it comes to conspiracies and detracts from all of the heinous stuff he did right in front of our faces.

I think it's connected to the insurrection. The Russian connection ties to the social media disinformation effort that legitimized Trump's delusion. That gave basis for FOX et al to use the " some people are saying" to influence millions. It was Trump feeling mass vindication that led him to hatch plots to reclaim the Presidency.

But it's probably not evidentiary to the Impeachment though, true. Filmed statements, memo's and testimony pertaining to the actual act is probably all that is germane.

( I used all my best legal terms, ha)

It will be important information to flesh out all the episodes of the 14 part mini-series that will eventually be made about the Trump insurrection. And frankly, that's what it will take for the American public to understand the scope of how we got here.

We will get the back story of Russian intelligence, and see the boiler rooms where they generate social media. We'll get a psychological study of some of the rioters (who plays the buffalo head guy?). We will have scenes of Trump Whitehouse officials assembling the protest that got away from them ( who plays Stephen Miller?) Do a 'True Detective' one shot real time scene of the riot itself (feel the chaos) And, an ambiguous ending that leaves all on guard.

Seems fairly accurate based on all other reports we've had. Trump is just a vessel to be manipulated. Trump is just interested in himself, and making money for himself in any way possible.

The note though about the Syria bombing though is pretty silly. Trump put on a fake show. He called the Russians ahead of the strikes (which is basically like calling Assad himself) and told them when and how. The next morning the airport was operational again with fairly small damages. The Russians couldn't have been that angry honestly. Trump was just wanting to appear tough without even a slap on the wrist to Putin and Assad. If that's the worst that Trump did to harm Russia in his 4 years, that's saying alot.

Also Trump never changes. I assume he still would love to do real business in Moscow, and it would shock me if under his current predicament, he doesn't take full advantage of the revenue he can generate in Russia given how he's extremely toxic both here and in most liberal areas of Europe.

But it will be on PBS so the people who really need to see it will never watch it and will just dismiss it as lies of the liberal media after Tucker Carlson tells them what a hit job it is.

Would draw more viewers if it was just the cast of Friends playing all of the parts.

Then play the theme song to Friends every time they have a wide shot of The Kremlin.

Thought it was Bannon and Roger Stone who had the idea ages ago. This one sounds fishy.

If somehow in an alternate reality and some actual irrefutable evidence showed Trump was illegally connected to Russia, would his presidential library be in Moscow?
