R.I.P. Former first dog Buddy killed by car January 3, 2002 Posted: 8:32 AM EST (1332 GMT) NEW YORK (CNN) -- Former President Bill Clinton's dog Buddy was killed Wednesday by a passing car outside the family's home in Chappaqua, New York. Former "first dog" Buddy was struck at about 2 p.m. on Route 117, a busy two-lane street close to the Clintons' home on Old House Lane. A spokesperson for the former president told CNN the Clinton family is "deeply saddened" by Buddy's death. A family statement said Buddy was "a loyal companion and brought us much joy. He will be truly missed." New Castle police officer Bruce Cathie told CNN a young driver from the neighborhood was "possibly involved," but stressed that Buddy's death was purely an accident. Cathie said he did not know if the dog was being walked or had escaped from the home when he was hit.
I loathed the Clinton's, but being a "dog person," I know this is almost like losing a child. I feel for them. He was a gorgeous dog.
You'll get that squirrel in doggie heaven, Buddy!!! Why do I feel like crying and hugging my ol' dog?
Personally, I suspect Socks. Have you seen Cats & Dogs? Seriously, that's really too bad. You know what would be nice? If Ginger became so popular that cars stopped being used in-city. Then maybe so many pets wouldn't be killed a block away from home. I always feel like throwing up whenever I see a dead animal on the road.
I hope you don't live in Texas then. That was one of the things I noticed when I was back for the holidays...the proliferation of corpses alongside the roadways. That made me think....are there more loose...maybe stray pets in Texas or do more Texans just decide to write Rover or Fluffy off and leave them beside the highway as opposed to giving them the proper burial they deserve. Or perhaps, more pets in Texas are cerebrally challenged.
Unfortunately, the same thing happened to my family a month ago. Our dog, Betsy, was also ran over by a car, my mom's car. She died three weeks later. It took my mom a while to get over it.
Some of you are really f****ng heartwarming. -------------------------------------- RIP Buddy. Hang in there Bill.
Am I the only person who heard that news story and thought, The ex-president's dog got hit by a car. How unbelievably common. President Clinton's dog. Hit by a car. Are you kidding me? What was he just out running the streets? Did his neighbor call him and say, "Hey Bill, your damned dog is going through my garbage again. Put that beast on a leash I'm sick of him digging up my garden!" To me, the actions of a person's dog is indicative of that person. And it is utterly irresponsible to have a dog get hit by a car. That is just one step above those idiots that drive around with their mutts in the back of the pick-up truck. They have to go home and say, "I'm sorry junior. I don't know what happened. He just jumped out while I was on 610." I am quite sure that President Clinton was not the caretaker of his dog. I would hope that someone of his prestige would not run around the house at night in his pajamas going, "Buddy? B-U-D-D-Y? Here boy! Buddy? Where you at puppy?" then again...
Some of you guys dig REALLY deep to take shots at Clinton. I'm assuming it was just a freak accident not some evidence of a irresponsible person. It happens to people all the time, pets getting loose. Having extra guards around isn't going to stop an animal from sneaking out. And I doubt if Clinton brought the dog outside and then walked back into the house so that it could get hit.
