That is the most awful announcer I have ever heard, last night he got 3 names wrong, he has no spark in his voice it's just real plain.

Reminds me of that commercial on tv where the the guy says the name wrong and in the back ground you hear this voice "Hey you stink" Southwest airlines commercial I think.

    Where is Turbo?

He's referring to the PA announcer...

Tim... you said lets give him a chance, and he's new and all... but C'MON!!!

He still sounds terrible on TV (no matter what base/treble you worked out at the arena with his voice), and people who go to the game thinks he sounds terribly unprofessional...also, these are people who don't go to many games, and they aren't comparing him to the old guy... they think he's bad all by himself, without comparison.

Its almost as if all the glitz and glamour of the new arena is erased as soon as you hear his amateurish voice (which is kinda hard to avoid).

Keep him on to do all the promotional stuff (if he's as good as you guys thought he was at that), but PLEASE get somebody with either a.) a good voice, b.) SOME prior knowledge of basketball, ie in pronouncing names and identifying who scores, etc., or c.) a decent combination of both... which you can probably find without the "extensive" tryouts you guys supposedly had.

    Oh, thanks.

(BTW - BW is still bad-on-baseball/fine on Rox.)

Man I could not have said it any better. I remember the season opener and I sat down to my new seats and took in the wonderful sights, smells, and atmosphere. :D Then all of a sudden that highschool gym announcer opened his mouth and I was like  "What the f***?" Now whether Im at Toyota Center or hearing him on TV yell out "Defense" for the 500th time it makes me

Oh, while we're at it...Where's my Countdown to Liftoff?

Maybe we can pull a 2 for 1.

Current announcer + drummers for Ray Clay of Chicago Bulls fame. :p

Or even whoever the old announcer was in the mid 90s.

I would attend an open tryout. I have the voice and ability to pronounce names like nobody's business.

new announcer, drums, and guys with painted faces....for......... old announcer, liftoff theme, and Turbo

    Trade Accepted :D

Due to the fact our new announcer sucks, the drums are so boring and the guys with painted faces are weird, we go back to the old days and get the crowed pumped with the old announcer, liftoff and good old Turbo :D :D

    But why?

What is he so good at that the Rockets are deciding to keep him?

Who likes him? I've not heard or read one comment that said anything 'positive' about him at all.

When you have this many threads, and this many posts that are negative about a PA announcer, there obviously is a problem... believe me, I usually find matters like these trivial, but in this case, its pretty clear that T-Grey IS that bad.

It significantly effects the enjoyability of a Rockets game, I'm sure he doesn't "pump up" our crowd like the old days, and I feel it causes a high-school / rec gym image of an NBA franchise in a state of the art building.

    Embarrassing.

I personally like how T-grey sounds. I've been to a lot of arenas and he doesn't bore me like some others. I think the Lakers announcer is really lame and boring. Yes his style is non-traditional and believe me his delivery is much different when he is on the radio. At the end of the day, he's just a PA announcer and they tell him exactly what to say i.e. player names, scoring, etc. PA Announcing isn't Rocket science and he's not going to make or break a game. Get used to him.

I'm getting used to the fact Van Gundy isn't going anywhere (well at least for another 2 years when he will want to be in total control of the organization like Riley did in Miami being GM, Coach, etc.) I still don't like the man but I'm happy for the 5-1 start. So I'm getting used to him. :p

As for Turbo... I heard he is officially retired.

Maria Todd of 104 sucks alot too. She does comets games...not that I watch that crap.

If there was somebody on the radio that could be the PA, Steve Robinson from KTBZ. He has a good radio type voice.
