What a crazy day the NFL has experienced! Who would have thought that the Falcons would beat the Saints in New Orleans? Or how about the Patriots beating the Colts for the 2nd time this season? Tom Brady will be starting for someone next year. Even the pitiful Deadskins win a game by beating the now hapless Panthers. But what about the Cleveland Browns? This is the same time that had a ridiculous 50 or something like that yards of total offense in a loss to the Jags last year. The same franchise that has won a total of 5 games out of 32 the past 2 seasons entering this season. I have to admit that I was pretty pissed when Butch Davis left Miami to go take that job (sorta reminded me of Olajuwon - he talked out of both sides of his mouth). However, Larry Coker is doing a great job at Miami and Butch is doing a miracle job at Cleveland. Who would have honestly believed that the Browns would beat the Ravens this year? If you raised your hand, then no offense, I don't believe you. Tim Couch is finally playing like everybody thought he could and James Jackson is having a solid rookie season. However, it's the defense that is causing the Browns to win games. They were opportunistic again having 2 interceptions and they knocked both Grbac and Terry Allen out of the game. To compare this to the NBA, it would be like the Grizzlies leading the Midwest division this coming season after 40 games. If the Browns make the playoffs, then this has to be one of the top sports stories of the year.
Nobody's for real. The NFL has been ruined by parity. I'm sick of this; you might as well flip a coin on any given day to determine who wins. It's good for the league, I guess, because there's more interest in teams that otherwise might be bottom feeders. But it sucks for football. It almost seems like everything is random now.
I agree with haven! Parity sucks. It used to be that if your team scratched its way into the playoffs, you could look forward to them improving the next year and maybe taking it to the next level. Now, you have to worry whether they'll even be the same team again. It really sucks. Teams have no identity anymore in the NFL.
I for one love the parity. It has helped the Titans remain within striking distance of a playoff spot. Thank god!!! Next week is a big Monday night game when the Titans travel to Steeler country. The Titans secondary is just a mess. A walking MASH unit as described by todays announcers. Still keeping the faith!!! Go Titans!!!
Broncos are in trouble, moe. With Griese not a 100 %, they have to get Mike Anderson off in the running game. For the 2nd week in a row, it didn't happen.
I've found myself cheering for the Chargers since they finally got rid of that clown, Ryan Leaf(who happened to sign with the CowPies......HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!). Still it's nice to see the Raiders kicking some butt as usual through the first 8 games and witnessing the Steelers sacking the QB 10 times!
Woah, wait a minute... NOBODY'S for real? How 'bout them Rams? They mopped the floor with the Jets. Oakland, Green Bay, the Giants, and Chicago/Cleveland (pick your dark horse) all look good to me. This season has been so crazy that our office NFL Survivor pool (with about 100 entries and a $2000 pot) is now over and done (after week 6!). (And, no, I didn't win (although I was somewhat close). One of the baseball editors won, which really kind of annoys me since football is supposed to be my arena... )
I agree with Haven. There are no teams that you can hate anymore. BTW, good to see Cleveland stick it to Modell.
I hate the Ravens with Passion. Go Titans! If we beat Pittsburgh we are not only back in the race, we are controlling it. If we lose to Pittsburgh our season may be finished. The Browns should come back to earth. I think we will pass them by soon enough. We could still win this thing if the secondary would stop giving up the home run ball. Dyson had better learn real quick.... McNair, another comeback win. How many does that total? And is it me, or does his comeback always look the same. A long kick return. A short pass. A long scramble. A FG. Almost like clockwork. And am I the only one who thinks the McNabb "chunky soup" commercial sounds a little funky. "You can feel him up after I get the chance to feel him up first."
PSJ, What's up my friend!!! Go Titans. I loved seeing the Ravens lose to. Your right about McNair. Another 4th qtr game winning drive. As much as McNair frustrates me at times he is a master at running the two minute drill. Definately one of his biggest strengths that people sometimes forget to think about when blasting him as a QB. However, I disagree with you regarding the Titans controlling the division if they beat the Steelers. The Titans have dug a huge hole for themselves after that 0-3 start. Keep in mind that all three losses were to AFC teams and two of those three losses were within the division. So we are not in control at this point even if they beat the Steelers. I think they will be in the best possible spot considering they started 0-3. But the Titans have a uphill climb from now till the end of the season. There are no easy wins on the schedule. The next 5 weeks will have the Titans playing games against teams from within the AFC Central. The Titans have to start playing smarter ball. I think they lead the NFL in penalties. There is no excuse for that. I am glad to see that Fisher played Andre Dyson at CB yesterday. Even though the rookie got burned on several plays he is much better than Deron "Toast" Jenkins. I can't stand him. I think Andre has the skills to play CB and this is the best way for him to learn the ropes. We also need Samari Rolle and Blaine Bishop back in a bad way. Once those two are back I see our defense improving. But until than we need to keep finding ways to win. PS. Joe Nedney has been a good pickup.
