    Bskball.com states:
"The Rockets have surfaced as a team with an exception, also being asked if they are interested, and their first words were "what's in it for us". The actual deal is likely to go through Houston, if the players can be juggled the right way. Don't be surprised if Anthony Mason is wedged in the deal going to Houston either"

Anthony Mason starting as PF on our team would be great. And it seems to me that in the Jones deal we cud be getting Mason and miller out of it. God bless the trade exception.

Think of the pick he could set for Francis ! He also can handle the ball and drain an outside shot, but he could be trouble too! We could always trade him.

If I'm not mistaken we're still trying to get a stadium vote passed. This would not help.

I would be completely shocked to see the Rockets deal for Anthony Mason. The last thing that the young Rockets need is a bad influence in their impressionable locker room.

Think of the great young guys who possess character on the Rockets. Is there one Rocket that does not seem like a solid citizen? Mason would just not fit in with our group.

Rockets can still sign Isiah Rider!

Can the Rockets trade for Mason AND Coleman?

If the Rockets have players who are of high character and seem to know right from wrong, which they do, then they should not be affected by one player with a questionable attitude.

Rudy has done tremendous things in the past molding egos. At the time we picked up Barkley people even questioned how his attitude would blend in with the good character Rockets. Who's to say Rudy can't help Mason fit in here? If he can't, he can't though. Also, to my knowledge Anthony Mason has been a good player on the court, and has not been a bad presence in the locker room. Most of the incidents people refer to are those that happen off the court, such as the one that happened in New Orleans, and the one in New York the year before. I don't agree with everything he has done, but I will point out that he did not pout or have a poor attitude on the court because of these actions. He is not like Isaiah Rider. He hasn't slammed his team in the past to my knowledge. He doesn't show up late to practice, and doesn't sulk on the court at times. He is a worker who is focused on basketball when he is in the game, and I think he could help our team.

Finally, there's one more good thing about Mason. His contract. He is an older player, which I do realize. But he does not get injured very much, and his contract runs out after this season, in which we can renounce him to clear more cap room. With Mason, I see a guy that can help this team greatly for the upcoming season. He is the starting PF that can bang, defend, and rebound like we all want. He is an enforcer that so many of you seem to want. He also plays some point forward, which can help Steve out at times. And finally, his contract runs out after one year, and we would be able to renounce him to clear room for Webber. With some of the other options out there that you guys seem to want, that is not an option. I know not many are, but I am a supporter of trading the exception for Mason and I think it would be a good move for the Rockets.

    The Cat,

Barkley did blow up the chemistry. I seem to recall Clyde retiring early because of him.

I remember they had their disputes, as a lot of players do. Because of their names obviously the disputes they had were more publicized. I also remember Clyde did not announce his retirement until he had received the head coaching job at UH, so Barkley was not the ONLY factor in that decision.

Overall, however, do you regret Barkley coming to the Rockets? Barkley brought us so much. He made the team more nationally known than before. He gave 110% on the court every night. He played for the veteran minimum to accomodate Pippen who we thought would lead us to a title. He took many of the young players like Steve under his wing and guided them and showed them how to get better. I don't see how bringing in Barkley can be looked at as a failure. My point is, Barkley was a contreversial topic as well when we brought him in, and I don't think there are very many posters here who aren't glad we took that risk and got Charles on the Rockets.

I don't want a disgruntled Mason on the Rockets even though I've posted before in favor of getting him. I say he'll be disgruntled, because you KNOW he will be. He always gripes when the offense is not run through him, and it definitely won't be here. With Francis, Mobley, Hakeem, etc. all needing their looks, Mason is going to get very few touches. And it's not like winning is going to make Mason happy, because getting Mason is not going to suddenly make us championship bound. Not to mention how old he is.

I am one of the posters who think acquiring Barkley was a mistake. He helped Clyde make the decision to retire, he did not earn his money by busting his fat butt in the off season (so he was often injured), and he embarrassed the team with his foul mouthed rants at the free throw line. Families who attend basketball games should not be subjected to such profanity from egomaniacal jerks like Barkley.

When choosing players for the Rockets, character counts very much. I am very concerned with the report that Mason hit police officers and attempted to incite a riot. Since we know that police officers don't always tell the truth, I sure hope the Rockets do a thorough background check on Mason if they want to trade for him.

Cat is correct though, about the benefits of picking up Mason's contract so we can renounce our rights to him after one year.

Did he make Clyde smile after we lost game 5 in Utah?

Did he make the rest of the guys choke after he got hurt in game 4?

    Just wondering.

Clyde was going to have to retire anyway. If he was to re-sign the Rockets would not have had enough money to sign players to the max. He was either going to retire or go to another team which he had the choice of anyways. It was a clash of ego's and was Clydes fault just as much as it was Barkley's.

Hey, Clyde came to Houston and helped win a championship. All Barkley did his entire career was display unfulfilled potential. Barkley did not work our year round, which is unfathomable to me, considering the amount of money he was making.

Barkley had his shots to win it all in Phoenix and Houston, and he chose to be a bum. During Barkley's first year here, he spent his time in strip joints drinking until the wee hours of the morning!! That is not how championship caliber athletes act. I am not a big Pippen fan, but Scottie was 100% correct when he said Charles would never make the sacrifices necessary to win it all.

By the way, if you have not noticed, I don't like Charles Barkley the basketball player. Although I have heard he is a fine human being, I am glad the Rockets don't have to pay him the big money to underachieve anymore.
