We can offer Shandon early bird, which will start at about 4.5 mill per year. Davis will not be commanding much less than Webber. Davis is expected to sign for 7-9 mill (around where his option is), and Webber is 12.6 mill. How much do you plan on giving Shandon? 6-7 mill? That'll put you out of Davis, and probably Mo. ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
Mmmmm... Milwaulkee's pick (e.g. Forte) + KT + Cato == Davis on draft night. Mmmmmm... NIKE, when a player opts out, does his salary count 200% just like a player that's just become a FA? I don't envy CD this summer. So many opportunities, and such a high chance to screw things up. Hopefully he does his mazes like me, backwards (w/ Webber in the middle). ------------------ "We've never been very comfortable with praising ourselves, but we're so proud of our new album, The Great Eastern, that we've got no problem telling people it's an absolutely fantastic record." EMMA POLLOCK of the delgados.
If that is case, the rockets are worse off than even I thought. I don't think Shandon will sign Early Bird, so 5.5 to 6.0 million is what is going to ask for. Davis could sign for 9.0 million but I think we could get him for 7.5 to 8.0. NIKEstrad, is there a way to give Shandon 4.5 million this season then gradually increase that amount to meet his asking price? ------------------ I am an invisible man.
YOu would take Davis over Webber? Davis is good but when you can get a guy who can give you 27 and 11 I say take him. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
NO. I would take Davis and Shandon and our integrity as an organization over Webber. ------------------ I am an invisible man.
Whats so great about Shanndon? The guy had 1pt against the Suns. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
Lil Francis, Shandon IS important to the rockets. He can and does play defense. True, he is not a great scorer. But (like I have said before) how many scorers do you want on the floor at one time? My ideal team would have two scorers. A front court scorer and a back court scorer. A playmaker and the other two players should play defense mainly. That is what Shandon is, a defensive player. Look at it this way lil francis, Shandon is a mentor for steve and cuttino in defense, which is the one glaring weakness of both players. ------------------ I am an invisible man.
I truely expect to see Cato & Walt moved this off season. That should change the cap situation or bring in another piece or two to the puzzle. If we bring in some quality players through trades or FA's, Dream might stay for the minimum. Don't know for sure though. My biggest concern with signing Webber is that the team will have so much salary tied up in one player, which would leave you no flexibility in the future. Some perfect examples are Rockets w/Dream, Minnesota w/Garnett, Vancouver w/Shareef & Reeves, & Washington before they were able to find a rich owner that didn't care about the cost. If we go after some players that are not considered marquee players, like Marc Jackson for one, we could put together a young talented team that is signed on long term & still fit it under the salary cap. When their contracts end, we would be able to match anything they are offered or do a sign & trade. I'm not against getting Webber, just tying up so much of the cap in one player. ------------------
Davis would be good value. Is there anyway (not sure of his contract status) that we can get Scott Pollard in a Houston uniform, that guy would rock as the back-up 4/5 and is massive on the boards and loves the dirty work. ------------------ "Repression never did me any harm (I finally ceased to include "stop masturbating" as one of my guilt ridden New Year's resolutions, but that's a different topic)." Achebe-Yeah, because it's just like they're becoming a free agent. Shandon's number is 130%, not 200%, and it comes to 2.86 unrenounced. kbm-that's the way a contract works. He'll get 12.5% increases each year, which comes to a $562,500 each year, assuming a 4.5 mill base. It adds up. His contract would actually be a little better than Cuttino's (same structure, but increased average salary for Shandon). ------------------ "That's been a lifelong dream of mine." -Vince Carter, after laying it in on a breakaway, much to the Vancouver crowd's displeasure.
Ok I see your point on that but why would you take Davis over Webber? You can't honestly say if you had a chance at the two of them you would take Davis. ------------------ President of the Steve Francis, Jamal Crawford,Larry Hughes, and Charles Woodson fan club.
Of course, I want Webber. But I will settle for Davis because I think we can sign Shandon easier. If we can sign Webber and Shandon, I'm all for it. I just don't see that happening and Davis is the next best choice. ------------------ I am an invisible man.
Here are the facts. Sign Webber and lose Hakeem, Mo, Shandon. Hakeem is gone because we'll only be able to offer him the minumum and because I generally think he wants out of Houston. Mo is gone because of the cap after Webber and because Webber will take his spot in the starting lineup. Even if we were able to trade Walt and Cato, I don't think (capologist correct me) we will be able to sign him and Shandon. And Shandon is our top priority then because our SG position would be much weaker without Shandon than our PF position would be without MO. Shandon is gone because he wants to be rewarded with a FAT contract for signing for the minimum. There is also another matter here. Both Mo and Shandon signed for the minimum under the assumption that the rockets would reward them with a FAT contract, so if the rockets were to ditch them for Webber, our integrity with other free agents will be seriously damaged. And that counts more than you might think! The clear choice IMO is Antonio Davis. Sign him and Shandon Stays. Our intergrity is intact. We still not likely to sign Mo or Hakeem, but I'll take Davis and Shandon over Webber or over Mo and Shandon, which is, of course, the other possiblity. ------------------ I am an invisible man.
