O.K. Posey's gone, Pike's signed. Les is not going to add on his payroll this year. seems to me the only way to turn this offseason a succesful one is via trades. the Hawks just traded their top scorer, Big Dog Robinson, for an expiring contract. that reminds me a trade CD truned down during the regular season: S.A.R. for Eddie Griffin & Rice's expiring contract. I think they'd still interested. the potential of E.G. and tons of $ to rebuild their team next year (more than 20mil.) SAR is a proven scorer who can help this team right NOW! I think he plays decent D at SF position and also gives you 8+ rebounds and 3+ assists every night. I also hope we can find a way to get rid of Mobley & Taylor as rumored. maybe to Washington for Hughes & White? (Badiane and Etan Thomas have to be throw in for cap purpose) trade accepted by realgm. Haywood made White expandable and I think they'd like to add a low post scorer like MoTay. with Stackhouse, Arenas, Dixon, Jeffries, and now likely Armstrong on the team I think Hughes won't resign next season so getting Mobley gives them something valueable without lose Hughes for nothing next season. White is the perfect player to be alongside Yao Ming, a "bangner" JVG would love to have on this team. Hughes, at 6'5", can play both guard positions. shoots .467/.367 last season, would pass the ball to open teamates and play good D. I think he's the perfect complement to Steve in backcourt. Y. Ming, Cato White, E. Thomas S. A. R., Nachbar Hughes, Pike Francis, Norris we still under the tax cap and become a title contender immediately. I think that will make us the 5th seed in West this season behind Lakers, Spurs, TWolves, and Kings.
I like the trade with Atlanta, but no way I take Hughes from Washington. He has half the talent of Mobes, makes worse decisions, and has attitude problems. Shareef would be a nice enough trade to make us more competitive.
If the Griffin/Rice for SAR offer was real and not a BBS or Vecsey-style rumor, it was made by Hawks GM Pete Babcock. The Hawks fired Babcock near the end of the past season and the team has changed ownership. I highly doubt that offer is still on the table. Especially since the Hawks already got their cap relief for summer 2004 in the Robinson trade (Brandon's contract expires Feb. 2004).
didnt the hawks already offer reef for rice and griffin? like last year? i know they offered reef for EG in some manner.
No way do I make our forward rotation White and Thomas! No way do I do that deal with Wash. Now the Atlanta trade might not be bad.
SAR cant be on the block...because the Hawks are on the verge of being sold, so they need the value of the franchise to stay up
SAR would probably cost us Cat + Mo or Cato. And with a small combo guard already on their roster (actually, looking for his next contract: J. Terry), I don't know if this is the way to go. We need a bruising PF, and SAR is not that. Of course we've talked about getting Rasheed as well, and he's hardly a bruiser (well, unless you appeal to the imagination of small white refs who don't like getting glared at...)
Given the fact that they are blowing up this team having dealt robinson for a retiring player, how would SAR cost that much to deal for ? I'm not so sure a deal of SAR and Nazi for Rice, Norris and Taylor wouldn't work out pretty well for them. It gets them a solid replacement for SAR in Taylor, one they know what they are getting rather than Griff who could still be a big bust. It gets them Norris who is a pure point guard, which is a need for the team. And it gets Rice's expiring contract. Which coupled with the Brandon expiring contract should open up a tremendous amount of money for next offseason. And lets not forget that ATL has NO SF on their roster to start for them this year. Rice could do that and do it fairly decently. So I think this is a deal that could work well as above for both teams. Nazy would give us the capability to move Cato for a SF. Obviously SAR would be our PF with Griffin backing up 3 and 4. And Nachbar could then be our primary 3 backup. And it utilizes that key Rice contract to remove two of our more unloved contracts to a team where they might be useful.
I don't like SAR, but I like this trade......... Good Idea......for Mooch Rice and Taylor You're right we might can pawn off our horrible contracts because they need a Point Guard BADDDDDDDDDDDDDD............ And Taylor although he has a pretty hefty contract, is still cheaper than SAR
Shareef isn't the type of 4 we need and that Washington trade could be the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.
