RICARDO *ARIZONA*: HEy Chad! I was wondering if you would mind commenting on the magics possibly trading away their superstar T-mac. What teams have they heard offers from and is the Suns one of them? Chad Ford: It sounds like they're going to trade him. The Magic are soliciting offers and from what I've hear four teams are in the mix -- the Pacers, Suns, Rockets and Clippers. McGrady will meet with the owner, Rich Devos, tonight or tomorrow morning, but the writing is on the wall. If the Magic find a deal that makes sense, I think they'll pull the trigger. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Steve (Elkton, MD): Hey Chad, do you see the Magic trading the #1 pick? Chad Ford: Probably not. If T-Mac is leaving, then they need the No. 1 to begin rebuilding. I think Emeka Okafor should be the No. 1 pick regardless of what T-Mac does, but I know that Dwight Howard will be easier to take if they consider themselves in rebuilding mode after moving T-Mac. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rocke (Scottsdale, AZ): Hey Chad - Big fan of your work! I have a couple of question on what the Suns will be doing. Are they the frontrunner in the McGrady sweepstakes? Also, you seem to think they will go with a PG in the draft (if they keep the pick). Who is their guy as of right now, and would drafting a PG discourage them from going after Nash in the FA market? Thanks Chad! Chad Ford: I think the Suns have to be. They have the most to offer. They have a lottery pick (No. 7), a young All-Star (Shawn Marion) locked up to a long term deal and at least one other young player (Casey Jacobsen?) to offer in return. I don't think they'll get a better offer. The great thing about the Suns making that trade is that they'll still be well under the cap this summer, freeing them up to sign a top notch free agent or two to put on the floor with T-Mac and Amare Stoudemire. Chad Ford: If they keep the pick, my guess is that they have a hard time passing on either Devin Harris or Shaun Livingston if they're still on the board. If they're both gone, they might look to Pavel Podkolzine. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Kobe (Denver, CO): True or False? The Clippers will be the best team in LA next year. Chad Ford: Ouch. You may be right Kobe. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Evan (Ridgewood, NJ): Chad, I love your work, but I have to disagree with you. I think the best trade would be with the clippers. Maggette, Okafor, and livingston with the number 2 would be a rediculous base. I think livingston has the potential to dominate in a couple of years. Same with Okafor. Livingston is a much better fit for the magic. Having the top 2 picks and maggette would be much better. Do you disagree? Chad Ford: It's a great fit for the Magic. But does T-Mac want to play for the Clippers? That's the other part of the equation. T-Mac can opt out of his contract next season. Any team that trades for him has to be assured T-Mac will re-sign. From what I hear, the Clippers aren't high on his list.
it would be nice if we had our first round pick. But instead we had to use it to get rid of salary, cheap CD or Les. Even though the pick wouldnt have been high it could of enticed the magic to trade with houston and not phoneix.
yeah, luckily phoenix has that pick left after their cheap owner shipped off googs' contract and TWO first rounders to utah to get rid of salary.
If we hadn't done that deal we would still have our #1 pick true...... but we would not have our Trade Exception and I have feeling that will be of alot more value then a late #1 this summer.
Damn he is right. The suns do have more to offer than us. I don't want to give up Mobley. He's too good of a player for such a cheap contract. To beat suns we'd have to send future first round picks and both Francis and Cato. I'm also sure they're looking to unload Howard. If we could get something done, I'd like to see this line up Big lineup: PG: M. Jackson SG: T-mac SF: Boki PF: Taylor (Dont you wish Eddie wasn't an idiot) C: Yao Small Lineup: PG: Free Agent SG: Mobley SF: T-mac PF: Padget C: Yao If this trade happens, JVG wil stick to an 8-man rotation
So you don't want to give Yao any rest, plus you want us to start (free agent) Mark Jackson while burying Jim Jackson on the bench? Mobley's expendable in this trade, because we don't need T-Mac, JJ AND Mobley. Too much talent riding pine in that scenario. I think we do a 3 man rotation for C-PF, 3 man rotation for SF-SG and 2 PGs, there's your 8 man rotation. Would work better if we could keep Cato, though. Need to keep Cato, maybe unload MoT instead.
I dont know which games you were watching but I thought Mark Jackeson did a hell of a job, not to mention the mentoring that Steve got from it. THe only thing I can really be critical of is his jump shot, we all knew we were getting a an old vet when we picked him up. He did enoguh in my opinion for what we picked him up for.
