I think this deserves it's own thread. The new Ford Shelby Cobra concept marks the latest step in an exciting evolution of Ford concept vehicles, with an evocative design, bonafide performance credentials and – thanks to engineering as nimble and efficient as a sports car – a level of feasibility that is already close to production-level. My respect for Ford has risen exponentially with these two threads. The new Mustang, Cobra, and F-150 are quite impressive(Or moreso than their predecessors at least). I'd still rather get a Viper, though.
Why does this car look so disappointed with itself? Cheer up, bucko! You're a Cobra! (sorry, but that grill just makes the car have a sad face.)
He's not sad. He's scared. I don't care for the Cobra concept, but I like that they're trying. Add another nice Ford that's coming out: The Ford GT (nee GT40), though that's obviously a much lower production car (and much higher priced).
Did anybody see "Rides" on TLC last night? It was on the complete development of the Cobra Concept. One of the best parts was seeing Carrol Shelby doing donuts ini his old Cobra and the newest Cobra! SWEEET!!!
The only thing I wasn't sure I liked on the Cobra Concept was the frowning grill. I think that Ford just missed an opportunity to honor the Cobra with the oval grill...
Good job, Falcon's Talon. You and I are in complete agreement about that grill. Now that looks like a real Cobra. A friend of my Dad's had one in the day and now has a Superformance replica of one built in South Africa with the big block. You have to be a MAN to haul that heavy ass beast with waaaaaaaay too much power around. But what a visceral thrill. It's like hopping on a jet engine on a cart for a ride around town.
Watching "Rides" last night, the engineers couldn't get the current hood to bolt on. This project was built by hand. If this had been figured into the original design, it could have been easily done. As a matter of fact, if this car is released to the public, I'll bet that some enthusiast with proper skills will make the custom changes to it.
I like the way that hood opens, but I doubt the grill would have little to do with that, since the hood would clear the radiator easily.
Man that is a giant engine I think they should round off the bottom of the fenders by the wheel wells and in the back. The squared off design doesn't look as good as the original Cobra.
