My girlfriend and I are going to be graduating this May and Seattle is looking like a very strong probability of our future destination. She's been accepted to the U of Wash Psych dept and I'm gonna work in industry for a year, then go back to get my PhD. We're going to be visting Seattle late in March (the 24-28 I believe) and we want to do some preliminary apartment hunting. Are you familiar with the area around the university? Can you give any tips for apartment pricing/location? Any other useful Seattle info to know? Many thanks in advance... dylan ------------------
I'm kind of partial to the Maple Valley/Black Diamond area, but that's probably too far/too expensive for your tastes... ------------------ "There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies, and STATISTICS..." - Mark Twain -
Unfortunately, just about everything is prob gonna be too expensive. She'll make ~$17k, and after a year I will also. So we def want as cheap as possible... dylan ------------------
dylan, Have you tried looking for apartments online? I know it doesn't really help you with the question of "how good is the area", but at least you'll get a price range. If you want, I can give you some apartment search engines... ------------------ "There is a long-term study being done of women and their menstrual cycles and preliminary findings show that women in the US have had their puberty move from beginning around 15 or 16 in the 1960's to around 11 or 12 today as compared with women in China who still reach puberty around 15 or 16." -- Jeff Balke has nothing left to save (including his mind apparently) and has decided to become the Cliff Claven of the board. Unfortunately I've never lived in the University area. I used to live in downtown Seattle, and I now live about 20 miles south on I-5. The Auburn-Kent area. That would be about a 45 minute commute to the University district with good traffic. There are tons of apartments in this area, and I mean TONS. I wish I could be more of a help. ------------------ "Rarely is the question asked: Is our children learning how to put food on their family while being put to death."
Dylan I've got a couple of college friends that have been living in Seattle for about 8 years. They are actors, so they're poor (not to say you are). They are pretty savvy about living economically. I'll feel them out for any info I can and pass it on. ------------------ Everything you do, effects everything that is.
