Well I have a little computer problem here, that I can not for the life of me figure out. Im prayin some of you intelligent guys can give me some insight on what I could and should do....

About 4 months ago I got a virus on this computer. I mean I totally had to go through and reinstall everything..Infact I had to Download a boot disk just to install my windows XP. This was the first problem. I have an HP, but this computer was given to me and I do not have the software. So natrually I used my friends version of XP, the only problem was it was for his Dell. So I reinstall windows and low and behold when I finally got my computer working again the sound didnt work and the monitor is all messed up. The only sound I here from my computer is the little beeps u get whenever ur computer jams up, but thats the sound for everything now. Whenever someone logs on my buddy list or anything it beeps(kinda annoying if you ask me) At my moniter settings I cant change anything, and the only monitor I can use is the "Defalut Monitor" which makes everything on my screen huge. Ive tried to download another video driver with no luck. It seems everything I can think of that might work dosent. I dont consider myself a computer novice, but this here is over my head. Any advice you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

A short breakdown of the system I have and whats wrong:

    Monitor: HP pavilion mx70
    CPU: HP pavilion 513c
    OS: Windows XP
Problem: Cant change any of my monitor settings; is stuck on Default Monitor and can not install new driver or anything else a long those lines. Sound card appears not to be installed. As well as the some other drivers.

    Thanks again guys,
    SD

Have you tired HP's site? They should have the right drivers.

    That's his best bet.

Search the website for you drivers.

If your soundcard is not integrated then look at the manufacturers page for drivers etc.

There don't seem to be mx70 drivers for WinXP you might try the ones for Win98 and se if they work. You also need to make sure you have the most up to date video drivers. If you don't or if you have a generic set you won't be able to change the resolution.

He already has the advice I would give him from Castor and Uprising.

HP has a online utility that you put your model number/serial number into and it comes back with a list of the most current drivers for that machine.

here is the main page for that model for updates.

    http://h20015.www2.hp.com/en/softwa...osoft Windows XP&sw_lang=en&pagetype=software

they used to have a page that showed what hardware comes with one...you need to look around and see if you can find it.....in order to find the correct drivers...you need to know what the drivers are for.

Won't he have problems since he used a friends XP disk, even if he gets all the right drivers? He won't be able to register, will he?

Your monitor problem is not a monitor problem, but a video card driver problem. You should be able to get the video card drivers at HP.com.

I personally believe that HP has the worst driver support in the free world.

I still haven't been able to track down the drivers for my mother-in-law's computer...
