We have a team option for 717k on Landry for next season stop talking as if he is trade bait because he'll be a free agent. We'll take the team option and I'd be surprised to not see a three year extension reached, that perhaps pays him more next year. Say 8 mil for 3 years. Thats about a 500% raise from this year.
Just so you know, Clutch asked Morey personally, who said this is false. Landry will be a RFA after the season.
Maybe the site, and I'm wrong ... fact still remains someone with Landry's potential you don't use as trade bait. From what I've seen it could very well be another Gay trade if it were to happen. Don't actually think there's any chance what so ever of the trade happening.
landry has great potential. but if he's the deciding factor in a trade to bring in mike miller or mike bibby then the rockets might just have to do it.
Mike bibby yes mike miller hell no. Mike Miller is a good player but no where near good enough for the type of deal you describe. That would be trading for a good player now and giving up a player who's great a short time later but wouldn't have helped right away. (battier-gay known as we think trade puts us over the top for championship so we trade future away).
Under NO circumstances should we trade Landry right now. If we can't get an upgrade by moving our expirings and James/Head and picks, then forget it.
Mike Miller would be exactly what this team needs: A guy who can shoot, drive a little, and plays hard D. He's not an athletic God or anything, but would definitely spread the floor. Mike Bibby is something I don't think we want on this team. I do agree with you that Landry will be here next year, with that said.
Even as a RFA Landry could be in line for a big raise - but, and this I believe to be both true and significant, the $s would come out of the MLE. I would hope CL14 can accept a reasonable two-year deal and be fully Birded, then 'paid'. But, why wouldn't Milwaukee, for example, throw Bucks at him, a local fellow? BTW - what is his brother's game like? Is he on any 'draft board'?
Don't trade him for Bibby either. Bibby is no spring chicken and he seems very injury prone over the last few seasons.
As has been pointed out already, this is incorrect. I was confused also because the Chronicle had one thing and salary websites had another, so I asked Morey. Landry is a restricted free agent this summer. The Rockets do not hold a team option for 08-09.
interesting choice. i wold be more hesitant to trade a young guy for bibby who's older and breaking down. mike miller is a real deal scorer who would be a great fit in adelman's offense. a hypothetical trade of landry for miller isnt very similar at all to gay/battier. except of course for the teams involved. one of the top choices in the draft was traded for the SF version of derek fisher. i'm advocating a possible addition of a second round pick (landry or novak), or even a late first round pick (brooks or head) to a trade IF it brings in a 3rd star.
That's very weird. Standard 2nd round rookie contract is usually 2 years. 2nd year is usually guarantee or team option. If Landry's contract is 1 year, then Morey has made a big mistake on it. Why the team spend millions to buy the pick and signed Landry to a 1 year non-standard contract?
Carl Landry's had some great games recently, but if you wouldn't include him in a deal for Mike Miller (or a similar great fit), you're crazy. Same with Aaron Brooks. As great as they've been (offensively) at times, they're flaws are clear as daylight right now. Not saying they can't, and shouldn't be able to improve and be solid bench/semi-starter material NBA players for long careers, but c'mon.
Yeah, I heard the Lakers were really against the Pau Gasol deal. They were like: "Javarais Crittenton...no f'ing way. F*** Memphis and f*** Gasol." But then Kobe made a video that he was about to put on Youtube blasting Crittenton and team management, so they folded and did the deal.
Landry will probably go where ever the money is . .. Restricted means that Houston gets to Match any offer. Landry can take what ever offer he wants . . . but Houston can match the highest . . .is that how it works? Rocket River "Hey Landry, If they offer you less money to stay in Houston . . . well . .. All I can say is . . . look what happened to me" - Cat Mobley
That's not going to be the issue. It'll be what they can spend and how much his agent wants. If the Rockets goal is to stay under LT and Francis opts out. They'll have around 5M to re-sign Landry and to fill 4 other roster spots. So staying put next season could essentially be this year's roster minus Bonzi.
