back please find a way to watch the 4th quearter of tonights game against the Lakers. He stood around with a disgusted look on his face (while Marco Jaric and Foye played ahead of hm), never clapped for his teammates and stayed to the outside of the huddle on every timeout. I've lost respect for him as a player.

Dude mike james has always been selfish. Biggest ego ever with no game to back it up. He said over the summer he would win 2 championships in the next 3 years. Maybe he should have shot lower, like starting for 2 out of the next 3 seasons!!

I still don't understand why we are so fascinated with him. If he really wanted to come back to Houston, he could of. We should just get over him and forget about it.

Excellent news. This probably will lower his stock value so we can afford him cheaply this offseason. Boy I can't wait till he replaces Rafer! :D

I don't think its much as it being a lover affair with Mike James, as it is a "God Rafer sux monkey nutz and at this point I will take anything and anybody over him" thing.

I dont understand anyone's why people havn't figured out Mike James is a poor mans TO. They act like he just recently became a "solid" player. With the exception of his "break out" year in Toronto, where for some reason unknown to man they didn't sign him back [/sarcasm], he's pretty much been a 40-45% shooter his whole carreer and averaging about 10 points per 48 minutes. Solid bench player by looking at the stats. Yet for some reason people keep letting him slip into the free agent market or trading him for virtually nothing. Look at his carreer stats and what teams he's been with and how he got there. He hasn't been with a team for more than 3 years.

I believe Mike James is the only active NBA player who has been a Rocket and has a ring. He was a back-up role player on an NBA champion and Larry Brown spoke well about him.

But I think he might be washed up. He is 31 and having his worst shooting season in 3+ years. Maybe not, Minny is a mess, but possible.

But the pot shots at James as a player, when he played his butt off and was a major boost to us a couple of years ago, and given the fact he actually does have a ring, are off base.

I think JVG should also shoulder the blame for the situation. I find it hard to believe that JVG allows Rafer to continue with his horrendous decision making.

I am not exactly sure why we signed JLIII as a backup pg. I hope we will resolve the situation this coming summer if we have no desire to play Vspan. Although if we do get a coaching change, we may see Vspan play more next year.

Now if only Rafer could do that consistently.

Mike James is a solid player, but I dont see what him having a ring has to do with anything...it's not like he was a big factor in Detroit's champioship

Sure, Mike James is the better shooter, but who has the starting job?

LOL! How is that any indication of how he would play (or DID play, rather) for us?

I love how desperate Rafer fans are getting...this thread is pretty close to being the final nail in their coffin...which will be come playoff time.

LOL! These Rafer apologists just crack me up. :D

Guess who would be starting if we had Randy Foye on our roster?

Rafer is the luckiest SOB in the world, because he has ZERO competition on this team.

Heck, I want Tyrone Lue back!

Do you not get it yet? Mike James is a lockerroom cancer! He's been the same player throughout his carreer, and yet for some reason people keep passing him up. Even after his breakout year in Toronto they didn't even bother going after him.

It sickens me that there are people that consider themselves Rockets fans, but they hate Rafer. Not every player on our team can be good. He's the best point guard we have. And we score more points and turn the ball over less when he's in the game dispite his low assist and FG% total. Mike James isn't the solution, period.

Interesting reading the posts in this thread.

I loved what Mike James did for us in 04/05. He was an integral part of that team and I won't forget it. The way some of the Sura-lovers ripped him while he was here was totally off base IMO and the much talked about waving off of Tracy in the Mavs series got way too much focus on the forum.

That said, I am sooooooo glad he isn't with us now it isn't funny. He had a career year in Toronto because he had a chip on his shoulder and a contract to play for. There was no reason to think he would continue that productivity and effectiveness after the ink was dry on a multi-year contract. Turns out a lot of us were right. My Mike James "bashing" has nothing to do with his Pistons or Rockets days, but afterwards. The way he flaked out in Toronto during the last part of last season turned me off completely. His incomprehensible interviews and statements during the summer proved he had no place on our roster. Calling him a lockerroom cancer may be going too far.

I am also not a Rafer-lover at all. I'm afraid he will kill us in the playoffs with his mental instability and weakness. He is inadequate as a PG and I'm very troubled with Luther's PG play the last few games.

Bottom line: I don't like our PG situation at all but signing Mike James to an MLE contract was definitely not the solution. Mr. Flako can take his attitude somewhere else. I blame Rockets management for not having a viable backup to Rafer.

KAS13, I agree with your sentiments about Mike James. tigermission1, your comments about Rafer being lucky are right on the money. It's the Rockets who are unlucky.

When was he a "lockerroom cancer" with the Rockets? You're making **** up as you go.

Here we go again with the same garbage spewed over this forum over and over again by Rafer apologists.

I do not HATE the freakin' guy! I have NOTHING personal against him. By all accounts, he seems professional and hard-working. The ONLY thing I can judge him by is his 'performance' -- or lack thereof -- on the court.

Here's my beef with Rafer: I am horrified, terrified, and petrified at the prospect of him being the starting PG for a team with championship aspirations. I don't know about you, but I find his inconsistency alarming, and his lack of shooting appalling [/end of my Don King impersonation].

If I am a "hater" for wanting my team to do better at one of the most important positions on the court, then so be it. I want what's best for the Rockets, and Rafer ain't it.

The proof is in the hot dog.

Not every player, no, but I certainly think it's reasonable to expect a team with championship ambitions to have 'good' players in the STARTING LINEUP!

    That's precisely the problem.

Fair enough, but what does that have to do with Rafer?

Mike James is going to have absolutely nothing to do with the outcome of this season; Rafer will.

I just find it hilarious that fans of Rafer Alston find it necessary to bring up Mike James' struggles in Minny to somehow try and camouflage Rafer Alston's shortcomings as a Rocket.

I guess this is their line of thinking: Damn, Rafer is making me look bad! Quick, let's make fun of that Mike James guy up in Minny and may be no one will notice the 800 lb gorilla in the room!

It's pathetic, but again, quite telling. I guess that's all Rafer apologists have left. :(

lol. this is the funniest thing i've ever read...

that right there is saying rafer is mediocre to bad...

he's a starting PG. he needs to be as good as a starting PG. he's as good as a backup. he's starting b/c jon lucas is pretty much a rookie who is worse to almost as good as him him

he is our only point guard.
