Apparently Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson showed up and played a song with the Foo Fighter's drummer Taylor Hawkins last night in Toronto. After Hawkin's drum solo (bands besides Rush still do these?) Geddy and Alex came on stage and played YYZ in its entirety with Taylor (notice I'm on a fist name basis with these guys). The bands know each other through Nick Raskulinecz who produced Rush's latest album Snakes and Arrows and has produced several of the Foo Fighter's records. <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jaN5Ex2Tjrg&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jaN5Ex2Tjrg&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> and... <object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ktr3rT0ha18&hl=en"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ktr3rT0ha18&hl=en" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object> These are both crappy cell-phone videos but cool none-the-less...
Ya know, considering those were captured using cell phones from far away, in a crowd... ... I'm really quite surprised that the sound quality was as good as it was.
Count me surprised to see someone posting this here. I was on top of this from another Rush forum I frequent. This was pretty cool to see...since I'm a Rush fan and a Foo fan (albeit Rush is my #1 since forever). I would love to see some collaboration between the two artists on a song or something. That's really cool that Dave Grohl and company are now friends with Rush. I'm sure there is a mutual admiration and respect between the two bands. I think when Rush was looking for a new producer for the Snakes & Arrows album they made a while back...Nick definitely got Rush's attention because of his work with the Foo Fighters. I remember Alex and Ged saying that caught their eye. I'm looking forward to the next Rush leg of the Snakes & Arrows tour kicking off next month. I will be seeing them in late April in Dallas again...a day after I see VH play. Back-to-back concerts is a first for me. Good times.
