I saw this today: Stewart O’Nan and Stephen King, lifelong Red Sox addicts, will chronicle the season from spring training and Opening Day through to the highly anticipated events of the fall, in a hardcover book that Scribner will publish in late ‘04. They’ll go to some games together and each will keep a diary. They’ll argue or agree about plays and trades, and the result will be a fan’s notes for the ages.
whoa cool. didn't know Stephen King was a Sox fan. I don't really know who the other guy is... another author? I don't really read books. I'm pretty excited about the new season. Right now I hope Trot gets back early and in good condition. That Pokey Reese's defense is worth his absence of offense. Don't think there's been this much anticipation around here for the season to start in a long time. I'm a little bit afraid to dream though... Cards v. Rox world series! I wouldn't know who to cheer for.
One of my favorite Baseball books of All-Time is Roger Kahn's "A Season in the Sun" In 1976 Roger Kahn spent an entire baseball season, from spring training through the World Series, with players of every stripe and competence. The result is this book, in which Kahn reports on a small college team's successes and hopes, a young New England ball club, a failing major league franchise, and a group of heroes on the national stage. If O'Nan and King's book is anything like it, it will be very very good.
Stephen King also wrote a novel where Tom Gordon (when he was the Red Sox closer) was the central character. And since he's following the Red Sox, Stephen King won't have to worry about having a happy ending.
Not exactly true. The title of the novel was The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, and the girl was the central character. Gordon just made a few token appearances as visions that the girl had...
