Anybody other PACE members sitting around waiting to find out if you are about to go on strike? Our contract ends at midnight tonight and we rejected their latest proposal. No new offers are on the table. Who here has been on strike? I walked back in '90 when Kroger went on strike, and am ready to go out for PACE tonight. Anti Union opinions are welcome.
Never been on strike. Never been in a union. I didn't like my last jobs working conditions so I quit.
Damn you Joe Joe!!! You're nothing but a heathen free market capitalist! All of you bastards should be hog-tied and shipped off to America!
Behad Out of curiosity how much do you pay in union dues per paycheck? If you don't want to put an amount, what is the percentage of your gross pay?
Bobrek, Seems like it is capped out at two hours pay @ month. Q & A on Affiliation with PACE .........What about your dues if we join PACE? Monthly union dues for PACE members are two hours of pay per month which are split evenly with one hour going to the International and one hour remaining with the local. If your union now pays substantially less in dues, PACE will work with your union to gradually increase dues over several years so that eventually your union dues are on a par with what other PACE members pay. In the meantime, you would not have to wait to enjoy all of the services provided by PACE, including the assistance of an PACE Representative, and access to all of PACE's programs, benefits and professional services......... Mango
I'm in SAG and Equity. They are the two main acting unions. I did do the SAG strike a couple of years ago. Although I must admit, being in them has taken more work away from me than helping me find it.... I'm sure regular, on-the-job unions are structured quite different than entertainment unions.
I sympathize- I had been following developments until recently- I did not know the oil co's had rejected the latest offer from OCAW, sorry PACE. I live in the Beaumont area- we have three plants whose (contracts are up for renegotiation) workers will be directly affected. Exxon/ Mobil, Premcor, and Motiva I think. I have been a building trades member of- International Union of Operating Engineers since 1981. My dad was a member for 40 years. It is not advertised, but we do honor PACE pickets- any picket line for that matter. The building trades are very weak in the Beamont area since 1985. Safety is talked about more than ever, along with drug screening, but these jobsites are more dangerous than ever. I am not saying this to be inflammatory- this is just observation. The oil companies are confident that with the war on terrorism going that it will appear unpatriotic to strike or walk out. I have little sympathy for that way of thinking- they are stalling on accepting an offer. The 1st quarter of 2001 was very profitable for them. It would not kill them to be a little more generous. In this industry we have a very high rate of lymphoma and other cancer, along with lung problems. I hope PACE gets a good contract-I did not mean to depress anybody.......
Agreement was reached at 11:15 pm last night. A good, not great, contract was negotiated. Damn, now I have to go back to work.
I always wondered why Behad was a Democrat... Seems A. Well-off B. Practical C. Older and D. Not extremely idealistic Now I know! He's a union member! Combine that with the gay brother, and well, he just can't vote Republican!
