    Good article. Thanks.

It might be a long shot, but if Mourning can stay healthy and perform at, or close to, his former all-star level, then the Nets should not only be considered favorites to win the East again, they just might have what it takes to knock off whoever is coming out of the West.

I still dont think they would be able to beat 3 or 4 teams from the west with a healthy Zo. Just too tough here in this wild west we live in.

I hope he can have a successful season and remain in good health. He is a fighter and deserves a lot of praise for trying to make another comeback.

Yeah, I hope he has a sucessfull season. Aside from Hakeem, he's been my favorite player since he joined the league. Seems like yesterday that he knocked down that shot from the top of the key to eliminate the Celtics from the playoffs. I don't know of anyone asides from Kevin Garnett that plays with so much energy and enthusiasm as he did night in and night out. Man, he was just reaching his peak too when that illness struck. He was runner up for MVP and 3rd place for MVP the two seasons before getting the illness. He was also Defensive player of the league those 2 years. He never got much praise and attention though for the STAR that he was. I hope he can win a title or a couple of titles the next few years. God willing.

Sorry I for getting excited, i know it is just pre-season but just saw this and couldn't help but get excited.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Oct. 9 (Ticker) -- Alonzo Mourning scored seven of his 13 points during a decisive third-quarter run as the New Jersey Nets held on for a 84-75 preseason victory over the New York Knicks.

Mourning was signed as a free agent in the offseason. He collected nine points and four rebounds in 17 minutes in his preseason debut Tuesday. He nearly matched those totals in the third quarter against the Knicks.

New Jersey had a 39-38 lead early in the third before reeling off 14 of the next 16 points. Mourning had two blocks early in the spurt and scored the last seven points to give the Nets a 53-40 cushion.

Kerry Kittles scored eight of his 10 points in the third as New Jersey made 8-of-17 shots from the floor, including 2-of-5 3-pointers, and 11-of-13 free throws.

Mourning finished with 13 points and six rebounds and Brandon Armstrong and Damone Brown added 11 apiece for the Nets, who played without All-Star guard Jason Kidd, who sat out.

First-round pick Zoran Planinic started in place of Kidd and had six points and two assists in 23 minutes.

Charlie Ward scored 16 points and Shandon Anderson added 15 for the Knicks, who were missing a host of key players due to injuries.

Othella Harrington is sidelined with a right knee injury, Allan Houston and Antonio McDyess are recovering from knee surgery and Keith Van Horn was a late scratch due to a groin strain.

Mike Sweetney - the Knicks' first-round pick - had seven points and six rebounds. Fellow rookie Maciej Lampe scored 11 points in 17 minutes.
