Keep in mind this was the mother's idea...the girl is 6 years old. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5409535.html
Pull two tickets. Let the girl keep two -- one for her and the other for the social worker accompanying her. Once it's in the press though, there's no way the girl isn't going (someone will make sure she doesn't miss it). They should pull the tickets though and have her Mom explain to her what she's done.
Nope....What kind of mom is she if she models to her daughter that lying is okay if it suits your needs at the expense of others??
That's tough cause you're punishing the girl for her mom's actions. I wouldn't want to be the one to pull the tickets even though they should be pulled. Does the company receive any fault for not conducting a background check before announcing the winner? Seems odd they would care after the contest has ended.
You're right- but at the same time, if it was her mom's idea to put all that stuff in the essay, then she simply didn't have the winning essay to begin with. I just think it would be sending the wrong message if the family still gets the tickets out of the situation.
It's not like you are taking a kidney away from the girl. She will be fine..Hannah Montana tickets or not. I hope to heck she doesn't go..(unless she pays full price)
I saw this in the chron, and other news outlets. Thought about posting it. Here is my thought on this. I don't think they should go. The only way I think they should go is if they pay retail price for it. It was I'm fine with lying to get tickets or whatever it takes to get them, but not doing it like this. It's pretty stupid, and wrong. Atleast they don't profit from this and sell it for 8 times worth the ticket price. I think they would have gone to it though. so uhh.. If anyone has Rodeo tickets, and want to sell me it, let me know, I'm all ears. I'm thinking about selling my kidneys. e-mail me at cuttino dot mobley at gmail.com Thanks! I was already screwed for the Toyota Center show, I know I'm going to get screwed at the Rodeo.
This is kinda how I feel about Rafer. Like he won a contest for a 3 year starting spot though he appeared unqualified and undeserving. Its convenient for the contestants to think a contest should just stay in choose winner/reward winner structure. But sometimes if the story itself is compelling enough, organizers might want to create more publicity with it. Like if the story was about an extremely ill father, they'd go contact him and get content for a follow-up feel good story in the paper, that kinda thing.... I think giving her any kind of ticket is making a middle ground compromise that doesnt have to be there. Not saying the organizers gotta take some saintly position about it, but the ones that fabricated the story simply do not deserve tickets over someone writing a real story.
She isn't likely to learn either way, but letting them keep the tickets completely sends the wrong message.
That's what she said. Oh, c'mon... ya'll are slacking off for not catching this one... or... was that a cry for help? The contest said NOTHING about saying the truth and they were DUMB for not putting this on the contest rules. I'd sue their ass just to go to see HANNAH.
Parents, for better or worse, lose a sense of reality when it comes to getting these things for her kids. I'm pretty confident that the mother in question would gladly trade the public embarrassment, her name in the paper, and the scorn of thousands world-wide if it meant her daughter could STILL go to the concert. Don't let the terrorist win.
I wish we could pull up the criminal record of this mother...IMO losing a sense of reality is camping out all night in freezing rain to buy tickets...coming up with a story like "my daddy died in Iraq" is no conscience. Of course she would trade the negatives of this fraudulent act for tickets.
who gives a crap, its a freakin hanah montana concert. the self righteous indignation is more disturbing.
