...I'm not really in favor of trading Mobley. But, there is one point guard I might trade Mobley for to play alongside Francis, and that's Marko Jaric. Let me explain why: 1. He plays excellent one-on-one defense, and he also gets tons of steals 2. He can shoot, but he doesn't look to shoot 3. He's easily a better passer than Mobley 4. He's 6-7, so he could guard opposing shooting guards 5. He's even younger than Cat (24 years old) This trade works under salary cap rules: Houston trades: Cuttino Mobley Houston receives: Marko Jaric Sean Rooks (contract expires after this year, giving us more cap room) Remember, I don't necessarily want to do this, but I wouldn't be opposed to it, either. Sterling might go for it, because you can't find a better scorer than Mobley for a lower price.
I like him but I don't want to give up Mobley for him.I also think that Jaric might be retained by the Clippers because he is a pretty good player and would be far cheaper than resigning Miller. I hope Francis will pay more attention to improving his playmaking skills rather than moving to the 2 but it seems that Francis would like to move to the 2 after reading the Chron article and that is going to make it difficult for both him and Mobley to stay together.
Jaric will be a very good player in due time but he may be a bit too inexperienced to come in and produce at a high level immediately. Keep in mind we already have a ton of young players and we desperately need some veteran help/leadership. However, if we were some how able to gain this leadership from the front court (Brian Grant, Brand), it may still work out.
Jaric played well in the minutes that he got with the clippers. However, I think that Cat is worth just a bit more than Jaric. Cuttino is a proven player in this league; Jaric is not.
I think the Clips are looking to dump salary, not necessarily just any players. Jaric, as you say, is a good, young player who has a decently cheap contract. I would be surprised if they were looking to get rid of him.
I think Francis showed in the All-Star game that he IS a real point guard. 20 pts, 9 assists, and some AMAZING passes for alley-oops and fast break points. He is capable of doing it. It's amazing how good a player can look when he's surrounded by good players. When Francis has a better, more experienced supporting cast, we will see more of this from him.
hilarious post. judging a players talents after seeing him perform well in the Rookie Challenge, and 3-on-3 Hoop it up Game. I think the Rockets should give some serious thought into acquiring Ashton Kutcher and Tim McGraw as well.
This deal works (salaries) I think. If it doesn't, it's pretty close: Brand Jaric Cherokee Parks Sean Rooks Piatowski for Cato Griffin Mobley (Chicago's obligation to us maybe?)
Before Jaric got injured, he was playnig pretty well and steadily increasing his minutes. But I think he's really more of a scorer than a passer. He can play some point but I'm not sure how much of a pure PG he really is.
I can not believe than any NBA fan, much less a Rocket fan, would trade a player like Mobley for a player like Jaric.
