At least he isn't "Cash Us" Clay Bennett Bill Simmons might not be the most popular guy around here based on his comments about Yao and the Rockets, but there really are few sportswriters out there today who manage to capture the emotion of being a true fan as well as he does, and probably has the most dedicated and vocal fanbase today. This ridiculously long mailbag should resonate with anyone who was ever a fan of the Oilers, and even if you still have some lingering hatred of the Sonics for their "zone defense" of the 90s, there's no way you can deny the raw emotion of these letters. For everything that might be going wrong with the Rockets, remember that broken bones mend, bad contracts only last for so many years, wasted draft picks will pass, eventually the team will get out of the first round, and will win another championship, whether it's with Yao and Tracy, or with the nucleus of John Lucas IV, Laymen Lamar McGrady, the first born of Yao, the first born of Abi Olajuwon, and Dorian Hayes. And even if all of the above doesn't happen, there's still always next year. There will be no next year for the Sonics. Visit http://www.saveoursonics.org/
never understood the hate for les...great owner everyone needs to be reminded that we couldn't have won 94 or 95 without him
What? 94 was the first year he owned the team. Was it the firing and re-hiring of Calvin Murphy that push the team over the top. He is a decent owner, probably top 10, but he had about as much to do with the first championship as I did.
Who here HATES Les Alexander? If anything, the fact that (as it's been pointed out on this board) his other holdings are not doing well at all in the midst of this "recession", yet he still shows the willingness and enthusiasm to bring winning basketball to Houston should be more than enough to appease the fan-base of the city. I, for one, am incredibly pleased with Alexander as an owner. Championships or even playoff success cannot be the only deciding factor as to whether an owner is good or not.....there are a LOT of outside variables that must be taken into consideration. I believe that Houston as a city now has some of the best sports management in the country. The Rockets, Texans, and Dynamo are all headed for bright futures, and while the Astros are lacking when it comes to decision-making from the front office, you cannot question the desire that Drayton has to win.
Les Alexander >>>> McNair and Drayton Les spends money and loves to bring in big names. Just look at all the trades and splashes Les has made... Barkley Pippen Francis T-Mac Artest A lot of owners would not take on the salary to make these moves. Not all of them panned out, but atleast he would try.
