Yeah, I feel your pain. I'm sure the 30 million of us and our pacifist attitude's will strike fear in the hearts of a land of close to 300 million(?), with a military superpower.

I'm sure your shaking in anticipation. [IMG]

…not to mention the fact that the average American citizen is better armed than the average Canadian infantryman. But that's all part of the plan … yeees, all part of the plan. Mwwahahahaaaa! But in our graciousness, we will spare our brothers in the black gold … the good people of Houston (with one notable exception, of course). My town (Calgary) was built in large part by men from your town and region, and in appreciation, we will let you live.
    Your welcome.

This was kinda funny to me, but you guys may not see the humor...

I was in Victoria, B.C. a few weeks ago, and we were staying at a bed and breakfast that was on the beach (BTW--I highly recommend it: www.amorebythesea.com )

Anyway, there was this boat that kept sailing by and forth across the bay where we were staying. It was about the size of one of the coast guard cutters that we have here in Galveston, so I figured it was a Canadian Coast guard vessel. Anyway, on our last day, I asked about. I had to suppress a laugh when I was told it was the largest vessel in Canada's Western naval fleet and they were practicing maneuvers.

Oh well guys, the jokes on me I guess, ‘cuz I left Canada wanting to be Canadian.

We see the humour. Some are embarrassed, especially when ships full of illegal immigrants land on our coast without us detecting them. Others are proud, the whole "peaceful Canadians" thing. The truth is that one of the principle reasons we can have such pitiful armed forces is that we are next to you, but don't tell anybody I told you that. If you hang out next to the biggest kid in the neighbourhood, nobody touches you. I guess there is a symbiotic relationship, though. There are lots of American radar installations and other early warning systems in Canada's north and other places.

Hey Pole, did you get to Louise?

    Grizzled,

Yep, we got Lake Louise, and it was every bit as beautiful as we expected. It even snowed on our last day, and anyone who's spent their whole lives in and around Houston can tell, snow is special. We also drove into Banff, and we spent a day in Whistler. We also spent a night at B&B's in Salmon Arm and Kamloops--just because they were halfway going between the West coast and the Banff area. We also spent three nights each in Vancouver and Victoria. I really enjoyed Vancouver, but I don't think I spent enough time there to fully appreciate it. Banff and Whistler were nice little tourist towns and the scenery is unreal. But there was something about Victoria. Maybe it was the place we stayed which was a few minutes outside of the city, but Victoria seemed to be the perfect city. It had the right mix of tourism and real medium-size city charm. It had beaches and it had mountains. It had city and it had country. I can't explain it, but my wife, who is more travelled than I am, and I agreed: Victoria is the best place we've ever visited.

You should come here in January. You'll get all the snow you want.

From where I live, I can be standing on the balcony of the Banff Springs Hotel in an hour and 15 minutes. We feel Banff is a little too touristy for us, but there are lots of other places to go in the park and the Kannanaskis that are as beautiful and don't have nearly as many tourists. The next time you're coming through the area, let me know and I'll give you a few tips.

But there was something about Victoria. Maybe it was the place we stayed which was a few minutes outside of the city, but Victoria seemed to be the perfect city. You won't get an argument from me. "Tea at the Empress" is overrated, or at least overpriced, but after that Victoria is one of my favourite places too. The rest of the island is spectacular also … Long Beach. Cathedral Grove, Nanaimo. Glad you had a good trip. You're welcome back, anytime.

Pole, thats awesome to hear you enjoyed your trip here in Canada. Did you make it to Calgary? Though I've been to Vancouver, I've never had the opportunity to visit Victoria. Everyone I've talked have had similar praises as yours. Did you get to see the Botanical Gardens? As for Banff and Lake Louise, they are indeed beautiful, but as Grizzled said, there's a countless number of quieter, more tranquile (sp?) places around there (ie. Peyto Lake, Johnston's Canyon). Just curious; do you think you would have enjoyed the trip as much if you went in January? Just wondering if the cold would discourage you.

Behad, dude, I think you've been hanging around COACH SAMPSON too long! Actually, one of my Geography teachers half-jokingly predicted that in 25-30 years, the U.S would invade Canada. The reason; America would simply have too few resources with too many people, and would "peacefully" barge into Canada, with its plentiful resources and undeveloped land.
    Don't get any ideas. [IMG]

Oh geez, somebody please shoot me!!

Really Azim, is that how my post came across? I didn't intend for it to sound like a true conspiracy theory. I'm just bored here at work and was trying to lighten the mood some.

I love Canada, really I do. Some of my best friends are Canadian. Not that there is anything wrong with that. [IMG] [IMG]

Behad is the smart one Azim. We must focus our efforts on him. He's onto us. We must find a way to get to him. Remember, every man can … er… be had!? I'm sure Behad can be had. If we had been a little smarter, we wouldn't have been so careless as to allow our plans to fall into his hands. If Behad hadn't found our site we would have been home free. The fruits of our labours, there to be had for little cost. If only it had been so. But Behad won't be having the last laugh. One way or another, he will be had!

Yes, grizzled, I have copied all your plans and have them in an envelope addressed to the Pentagon. Now, if anything should happen to me, those plans will be made public.

Now, if you are willing to cut a deal with me, then yes, I can....be had!

    Azim--

I have college memories of walking downstairs from my aparmtent in the winter to get the newspaper wearing nothing but boxers. I had to hold onto the rail to keep from slipping because bare feet and ice make for an extra slippery surface.

I'm sure the cold could bother me, but I seem to have less problems with it than other people. I was laughing at all the Vancouverites because they were all bundled up like it was the dead of winter, and it was only in the 50's. I was wearing shorts and loving every minute of it.

To answer your question, I think I'd love it in January. The only gardens I saw were the Bouchart gardens in Victoria--absolutely stunning!! I didn't get to visit Calgary, but next time we go to Banff, we're going to fly into Calgary. If you get the chance, go to Victoria. I hope you guys are around to give me some pointers for my next trip. I was at the Texas State fair yesterday talking to a friend about my honeymoon, and here's what I had to tell him:

I said, "You know how it is after a long vacation? You've had a great time, but you just want to get home? We had been gone almost two weeks, and we'd done a lot of travelling--no real relaxation. Still, we didn't want to leave Victoria. We wanted to stay. I think I know why. I felt like I was already home."
