I've always wondered about these games. I heard on 610 and 1560 that the Rockets had a new Ringer....Shawn Respert.
lol nice. this guy is awesome However, I am afraid that DM is getting a little too much publicity ever since that nytimes article. It's fine that we talk about him on here considering that it's a fansite, but I don't like him getting this increased attention nationally. I'm afraid that it will take away his edge in the business which makes him so good and intriguing in the first place. As long as he keeps working his magic, I guess I don't care about it, but if there's any sign that stepping into the limelight is affecting his effectiveness as a GM, he should stop.
I wouldn't worry about it. I think DM is smarter and slier than any one of us here thinks he is. Who knows, maybe his increased publicity is simply a ploy in his grand scheme to make the Rockets a championship team
I wouldn't worry about that. What I do worry about is that him being well known around the league will make it hard for the Rockets to keep him. Not getting him back may be worse for the Rockets' future than not resigning any one player to an extension.
I'd be concerned about Morey if GM's had to play each other on court to settle deals. Cuz I wouldnt trust him as much against Larry Bird and Joe Dumars.... Morey's GM to GM dealings might have limited effectiveness with the extra exposure. Though there's still many other aspects to GM'ing like drafting, player evaluation, free agents, not overpaying for talent, knowing WHEN a player's value is at its highest or lowest, that kinda thing. From '00 thru '04, Lakers made just 1 trade...so I guess if you get the right kinda players the first time you dont have to make crazy trades.
After seeing the amount of Billy Beane's secrets that were given away in Moneyball, I'm pretty grateful for the brevity of that NY Times article. Considering the relative amount of ifnfo Morey and the Rox have been able to keep close to their chest, I think he's done a good job of maintaining his edge.
