The Rockets are holding opponents to just 92.0 points per game, which would stand as the second finest defensive effort in franchise history. During the 1998-99 season, opponents averaged franchise-low 91.9 points vs. the Rockets. After holding opponents to 80 points or less just twice in 82 games last year, the Rockets have already accomplished this five times this season.

That might explain the 12-9 record! Call me crazy, but I truly believe the Rockets are capable of even better "D". (Dream getting into better shape, Cato's return, the team learning to defend the pick and roll better, and sending the double team quicker and by a different player).

The team certainly has a bit of "defensive maturity" yet to come!

I agree that when Cato returns it'll stiffen up the D some, I'm desperately hoping that we can lower the Opponents FG% - from memory we're pretty bad in that department.

DrN hit the nail on the head. 92 ppg is nice, but teams are draining 3's and hitting high percentages against the Rockets.

Still, the Rockets are doing a nice job of not putting them on the line and limiting their number of shots by not turning the ball over as much, for one.

Hopefully, Cato can cut down on the layups and dunks inside.

I actually like Mo, he just plays no defense at all.

Rockets are playing excellent "d" but the second thing they have to think off is to make sure the plays the execute on the offense side is the best.Francis has to shhot the ball at least 18 times!! [IMG]

Trying to determine how good your team is defensively cannot be measured by pts allowed. There is nothing to control against teams with slow tempo or the league in general being down in scoring. To determine how good the team is in general, you look at point differential and to determine defense, FGA is a good measure. These are those stats for the Rockets.

    Pt differential +1.5
    FGA .456

Both of these are mediocre stats and well below the likes of the Lakers, Spurs, Blazers, Kings, etc but are similar to the borderline playoff teams.

The historical figures are miselading. It may be the second-best year, but scoring has been going down throughout the league in the past decade. I'm sure a lot of teams are having some of their finest defensive years in franchise histories right about now. The question is, how do we compare to other teams right now?
