The United States of American national select soccer/football plays the Guatemala national select in a let's-not-get-eliminated-quickly game for the North American team. What do YOU WANT the score to be tonight? I can't believe none of you FULL-BLOODED Americans have posted this info. ___________________________________ In other soccer/football-related news, my team MEXICO will be playing PANAMA. TV: U.S.A. v GUATEMALA - ESPN2 @ 7:00 p.m., tape-delayed on Telemundo @ 11:00 p.m. MEXICO v PANAMA - Telemundo @ 7:30 p.m. ALso, Azerbaijan vs. England - FSC @ 7:00 p.m. delayed(?)
Most of us are still trying to get the bitter taste of losing to the Tri Colores out of our mouth. The US is favored by a goal and a half at some sportsbooks. I wonder what kind of crowd will show up for tonight's game. US 4 Guatemala 1
No option for a Guatemala win? wiws316 isn't going to like this too much. My vote goes for a US win by more than 1, they'll want to prove a point after their poor showing against Mexico. FSC is showing the England vs. Azerbaijan live at 12:30 and repeated at 7, then Spain vs. Serbia at 3 and Israel vs. France at 5, a nice schedule of qualifiers.
We're going to win, but how is the third game, our first at home, out of 10 a "let's-not-get-eliminated-quickly game?" We've taken three points in two games on the road, that's good in WC quaifying. Even if we lose, three points with seven games to go, four at home, would hardly emiminate us when 3.5 teams out of 6 make the World Cup. 3-1 USA.
CAN I EDIT THE OPTIONS? Option: Panama win by 1 or more is supposed to say "GUATEMALA win by 1 or more" Sorry about that, chapĂn wiws316, DrLudicrous
oh, sarcasm well get you everywhere will it not. Tell your Prima Donna keepers that we will see them in Germany in 2006. The only reason the US can't get the ball past the german keepers is because Torsten Fringes left hand won't allow it.
I voted for USA to win by more than 1, because no matter what i want, i have to be realistic. so yeh, maybe i should of voted what i really want, but i just doubt it would ever happen... but i honestly hope that Guatemala wins - simply because I lived there for 6 months and have a special place in my heart for that country.
As long as we win and get the 3pts, a tie would be awful and a loss would be devestating, and I don't want my 2006 WC tickets to go to waste. DD
In other news about US soccer, it is now official that Landon Donovan will be back in MLS this season. He's leaving Bayer Leverkusen on a free transfer to FC Dallas, who have traded him to LA for Guatemala striker Carlos Ruiz. This isn't good for us, we need our top players playing at the top levels. I've heard that Donovan hates Germany and part of the reason for the move is that he wants to decide which European team he plays for. The Bundesliga is not a good fit for him, but I can see him excelling in the Premiership. http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=329169&cc=5901
It depends. There is a group of six teams that will all play each other twice, home and away. After the 10 games, the top 3 teams qualify for the World Cup, and the fourth place team has a playoff against a team from Asia for another spot. This will be the third game for the US, they are currently in great position having taken 3 points in their first two games, both away. If you tie on the road and win at home, you qualify, so if you go by that logic, the US would be sitting pretty with 2 points.
It's a 6 team round robin (USA, Mexico, Guatemala, Trinidad & Tobago, Panama, and Costa Rica). The top three teams (3 pts. for a win, 1 pt for a tie, 0 for a loss) automatically advance to World Cup 2006 in Germany. The 4th place team plays the 3rd place team (I think) from the Asian Confederation for advancement.
