I dunno if anybody was watching this, but Oklahoma got completely hosed by the officials on not one, but TWO, replay reviews. Didn't really matter to me which team won, but for Oregon to win like that is totaly crap. They have nothing but the refs to thank for that "miracle" comeback. How on earth, in the replay era, you can botch two clear calls like that late in a close game is beyond me.
Man, it's wierd. Part of me is really, REALLY, pissed, but the other part is in like, utter disbelief at what I just saw. I've just never seen refs screw up REPLAYS like that, TWICE. I just don't know what to say. Have any of you guys seen anything like that before (seriously, I'm not just being an angry OU fan here)? Man, and I thought the def pass interference on Miami a few years back was bad. This was just on a whole other level. I dunno. I guess there may be some kind of NCAA investigation or something, but for now, I just don't see how I can watch college football right now with the confidence that the game will be reffed fairly. Guess I'll just be waiting on the Rox to get started now.
It was astonishing that the ref said OKlahoma touched the ball first on that onside kick. WTF is that? It was clear as day that Oregon touched it first before it went 10 yards. One of the worst calls i have seen in a long time.
I'm at work and saw the game for bits and pieces (caught the last kick return and block)...so what happened before that?
And then the second call...how is it NOT indisputable evidence when the ball goes from a nice spiral to wobbly and flipping end over end?!
Oregon was down 13 with under 3 minutes to play. They score a touchdown to get within 6. They execute an onside kick that they recover. But after review it's clear as day Oregon touches it before Oklahoma which would negate the play. But the refs ruled in Oregon's favor. A couple plays later Oklahoma breaks up a pass but its ruled pass interference. Ok. challenges on the grounds that they tipped it first, thus negating the penalty. On review, it's pretty clear the ball's flight was altered by a hand. But again, officials rule for Oregon. They go on to score again and win the game.
Not to mention OU came out of the pile with the ball on the onside kick. They got hosed in every aspect on those last 2 calls.
Regardless of who you root for it's a travesty for the officials to take the game away from any team.
Oregon still stored two touchdowns and blocked a field goal in the final 2 minutes. If Oklahoma wanted to win they need to make a tackle or defend a pass. They needed to score touchdowns instead of field goals late in the game. Oregon executed their plays and Oklahoma didn't.
They did. After JunkyardDwg's pbp, OU had a great runback of the kick. They tried a 44 yd (I think) FG and the Ducks blocked it.
Did you even watch the game? If the correct call had been made, Oregon would have never had a chance to score again. I don't know how you can say that wasn't a factor in the outcome.
