it looks okay. i think there were seven dudes on the line. i didn't really see how he hiked it. you don't have to hike it between your legs do you?
More LAZY than LEGAL. The defense just gave up on the play. Lack of concentration nothing more. Any other level such as college or NFL then safeties and defensive backs would be all over this guy. Not a trick play but more of gimmick play.
the only time it's not a trick play, or gimmick play is when the steelers do one, but it's called a gadget play.
Thought that at first, but not sure if it is a false start when lineman go into a stance, come out, and then the play is ran. Clever play though
Hopefully college and NFL players would be able to react faster, I can't blame the other team for not knowing what was going on. The ref at mid-field didn't even know what was going on.
People a "trick" play is something cleverly drawn up that works within the boundaries of the game. This play is a gimmick because it relies too much on the defense being stupid rather than clever invention. The QB fakes a hike and gingerly walks to the sideline and the refs do not blow a whistle. That is the mistake here nothing tricky by design. If the whistle is blown then this play is dead. Even the refs have no idea what the hell just happened. This was exploitation on a blown call nothing more you cannot duplicate it ever again hoping to get similar results. Laterals, hooks and even flea-flickers are trick plays that can be repeated not this one.
Didn't the Cowboys do that in one big playoff game like 10 years ago? I remember it because they had my man, Bernie Kosar, on the team and supposedly he was the one that drew it up.
The only person who has any authority on the legality of this play was the ref and it looked like he blew the call on this one.
The center gave the ball to a player behind him, so that's legal (it doesn't have to be between the legs to be a snap, a lot of the old "swinging gate" plays had the center pitch it underhanded out to a player behind the line of scrimmage). The linemen remained in a 2 point stance, so that's technically legal. The linemen also didn't move until after the ball was snapped, so that's still legal. As far as I can tell the play is OK. Cheap (so says a lifelong defensive player) but legal. I've always been taught that unless it's given to a referee, once the ball moves you go hit someone. I guess that's the reason why.
I remember in one of the bowl games, west virginia's o-line did something similar. They snapped it, but none of the linemen moved. They just sat there and for a split second the defense froze and WV's QB just ran past everyone. Pretty slick
The ref didn't blow the call. Everything was in order. This was a trick play. It caught the defense off guard...that's what trick plays do.
Nothing illegal that I can see. The ball is snapped legally. No one on the offense moved until after it was snapped. They caught the defense sleeping It's just one of those things that's only going to work once...
