The "Chinese food is unhealty" thread got me thinking. I love my Americanized TSO beef, white rice, and Hot & Sour soup. I knew these were not necessarily healthy, and I'll continue to eat them. The "authentic" food movement tells us that the authentic food is healthier. I think the same can be said for authentic Mexican, Spanish, Italian food, but are they as tasty and filling? Can anyone name any foods "authentic" or not, that are tasty, filling, AND healthy?
It will be pretty hard! I imagine there are dishes that are better than others but generally ... Taste comes from spices, including salt and oil. Filling implies large portion, or solid food, hence more calories. Tasty, filling AND healthy is pretty much an oxymoron.
That's what I figured. Otherwise, everyone would be slim and healthy. Now, I need to decide between Chinese TSO Beef w/Hot & Sour soup, Italian Spicy Shrimp and Chicken with extra Romano Sauce and dynamite sticks, or Mexican Tacos de bistec con todo y frijoles a la charra.
Big fat turkey sandwich with mustard. I make a marinated, grilled chicken breast (herb seasoned) that's delicious and is low fat, low calorie and low sodium.
No. But I can provide the recipe for the chicken I would think that chicken fajitas would be pretty healthy. They are usually marinated in olive oil, but that's about the only unhealthy thing about them, and that shouldn't be too bad.
Speaking of which, have you had the one in Bellaire and Bell park??? HOLY POOP!!! That extra large the size of a cow for only $8 is the best I've ever had! I just found out about it 2 weeks ago from my Viet friends... beat's Mai's and all those others by miles!
also you can make some pretty tasty, simple, and filling chicken dinners if you cook. just get some regular frozen chicken from HEB. salt and pepper the chicken. add some cumin/comino and some oregano. chop up some onions, red bell peppers, chiles, and cilantro. put it together with the chicken in a pot. add a little olive oil and a 1/3 to 1/2 a bottle of cheap white wine. cover and let it cook. you can also make some of that spiral vegetable pasta to go with it and slice up an avocado with some garlic salt and cilantro and some lime juice on top if you want.
