ok... i just got off of work and i'm tired. went to the liquor store on the way home to buy some mini taqueray's (sp?... than gin... you know). got home, figured i was hungry, and went to popeye's... one minute away.

anyway, i've had problems (maybe once every four visits or so) with this location giving out old food. you know... food that sits under the heated lamps for hours on end. well... i'm a diehard fan of the popcorn shrimp combo, which includes the a biscuit (mmmm!), fries or red beans and rice (mmmm.. rb&r), and of course the shrimp (damn... i feel like fatfattybastard by posting this).

sooooo... have any of you ever been to a mickey d's and notice that the fries are so damn dry and stale that you wish that you didn't buy'em? well... that's what happened to my shrimp. m'effers were so phocking dry that they tasted like those mini shrimp that you buy in the candy isle of a fiesta or something. man... that's almost a quarter of a tank of gas that that pps basket cost (i feel old by saying that).

like i said, i was tired and hungrier (sp?) than a muth. got pissed, made the extra trip back to popeye's, and waited in line to give the schit back. the place was crowded, so i didn't make a scene... also, i know that the chick at the front register has a thing for me (not my thing of course). i was nice... just said, "i'm sorry. i'm not a whiner or anything, but i just got off of a rough day and work and i'm hungry. these shrimp have obviously been sitting under the heat lamp for a hour or two. can i please have a fresh popcorn shrimp basket?" she apologized and went to prepare it. i noticed that when putting the shrimp in the bag that she had prepared a schit load and put my order into a huge phocking box. i was thinking ok... this isn't necessary... i just want what i paid for. she gave me the box and said, "i'm extremely sorry about that." i told her not to worry and thanked her for her help.

got back home and thought... ok... what if i couldn't see into the back kitchen where the food was being prepared. would they have done something if i did cause a scene? spit, pubes, arse sweat, etc? i've worked in the food industry before and have "heard" (yeah... ummm.. "heard") of actions being taken against people that complain. i've seen stuff on dateline, primetime, etc.

are y'all scurred to complain? have any of you worked in the food industry and have stories to tell? have any of you seen anything that workers were doing?

I also wonder about this, especially when you order a pizza to be delivered.

I remember once ordering a pizza and when I opened the box, it was just the dough base with very little else on it.

I rang back and complained.....they asked if I wanted another pizza and I said no because I didnt want any "Extra's".

I got a credit instead and used it a few weeks later.

    I worked in a restaurant.

It was "upscale" so the worse thing that I remember was that sometimes we would run very short on ramikins (sp im sure) (little tubs to hold sauce) and soup bowls. The were small and we were rushing so we'd break alot. Anyways, when bowls came up short, we reused bowls from previous orders. Just a lil rinsey rinse and we were good to go.

Ha, now this is something I know quite a bit about. I am definitely a food snob and excel at b****ing about food. Houston has some of the best restaurants and service anywhere and it is what I am accustomed too. Trust me, if my meal is not what I want, its going back. If it sucks, its going back. if I get ****ty service, a manager is going to know about it. And I expect to be taken care of. I know PieEatinFattie can attest to this. :)

I'm actually in the process of building my own restaurant critique site. Its going to mix humor with food reviews that you can get good information from. I more material before it goes up but we are hoping that it can be something really good.

We don't eat dinner out anymore with a certain female friend of ours who ALWAYS finds something to complain about. I just know they were giving us all the special sauce because she was being such a b****.

and I assume that are speaking of intentional mishandling and not the 3 second rule.

Yeah I hate getting bad service at restaurants. There is nothing worse than waiting for your meal when you know it's just sitting in the kitchen getting cold. I very rarely send food back though...I always think of the toast scene in Road Trip.

There's a movie called waiting that I saw the trailer for with Wedding Crashers. Look up the trailer, there's a scene where they go nuclear on somebody sending the food back.

From talking to my friends who delvier pizza, all I can say is tip your driver. They remember who tips and who doesn't. And they're more than happy to spit in the pizza of those who don't.

Where was this Popeyes? I remember one at Fannin and Richmond/Wheeler that once served me chicken that was raw inside.

Aside from things like that, I rarely ever send food back. Sometimes I do want them to heat it up more thoroughly or melt the cheese, but I figure it's not too much trouble to nuke it for a minute.

One of my friends is a real diva. She asks for substitutions and sends things back or complains at more than half the restaurants she goes to. I hate to think how much special sauce she's probably ingested...

I think that's true. The place we always order from always has our pizza delivered with a generous heaping of toppings and always quick. We always get the same guy and tip him nicely on our $14 pie.

Hey where do you order from now? The only pizza we've got since moving over here was at that new New York Pizzaria. Good stuff.

One week when we (the guys from work) went to lunch, I got all of our meals free, everyday. :D

While I can be a dick sometimes, I try to go about it in a respectful way. Others may disagree but honestly I dont care. I spend my money for a service and product that I feel should be to a certain standard. If it is not up to that standard, I'm going to let someone know about it.

I don't think I've ever complained about my food anywhere. But I think that's also the reason why they call me "Lil b****"

When I lived in Austin, I had a friend who was a bartender. Apparently, his manager was a real ass. Whenever my friend mixed a drink for his manager he would stir it with his d_ck. The novel stirring technique was also used for particularly obnoxious frat boys.

I worked in a BBQ place in high school and this one guy was making the chop sandwiches if a guy came in he didn't like, he would spit in it.

Don't spit in the cops buger.

When I was in prison, I worked in the "Officers' Dining Hall" preparing crap food for a bunch of guys that treated myself and the rest of the Officers' Dining workers like zoo animals in some country without animal cruelty laws. The guards liked to come in from the deathly Valley heat and quench their thirst with copious amounts of tea. Did I say "tea"? I meant to say "pee."

So, whatever you do in the food service industry, just make sure not to randomly strip search/horribly demean your waiter before complaining about your food.

One of my simpler rules in life is this: NEVER f*ck with people who get your food before you do. If I do have a complaint, I make sure to do it in a respectful manner, but I rarely complain unless my order got totally screwed.

I waited tables in college while my best friend delivered pizzas....we had some stories to tell and weren't about to take any crap from rude-ass people who had to have everything perfect. People who handled themselves respectfully were another matter, but don't b**** because your parsley was on the wrong side of the plate or something of similar idiocy.

(sorry, its been a long week.)
