How long would you keep leftovers? We made some badass pork chops on Sunday and now I want one to go with my egg beaters. Is it still gonna be good?

I'm deathly afraid of food poisoning and throwing up. I'm a wimp.

    Thanks.

I'll take them if you don't want 'em!

I'll generally keep cooked, refrigerated food for 4-7 days depending on the food. I'd have no problems eating Sunday pork chops on Wednesday.

I'm still nibbling on the Rotisserie chicken we bought Saturday.

I guess it depends on how well you sealed it up.

I seal mine in those little Ziplock tupperware looking bowls...and they are still good 4-5 days later.

Just make sure you heat it all the way back up before eating of course.

Sunday of this week? No problem!

Wow, most of you are conscientious. I don't even worry for the first two weeks - stuff should be fine (regardless of what they say :) ). I've never had anything go bad in two weeks. Usually I'm still eating from it the third week. Beyond that I might not take a chance... and of course it's always good to check for obvious smells/ things growing/ etc.

I'm so cheap, I'll eat anything that doesn't have a fuzzy white or green culture on it or smell bad.

I'm usually afraid to eat anything that is leftover more than a day or so. A few months ago I was eating some olives straight from the jar and noticed there was mold floating on top. I had been eating them for a few minutes before noticing this. Ever since then I am freaked out if I eat something that isn't fresh.

I didn't use to eat any leftovers what so ever, however, I've grown acustomed to not wasting a damn thing...

A week is a good rule of thumb for me, as long as it's in tupperware...I love leftowver spaghettii and pizza...yum...

My mom used to make us eat leftovers, but when I first got to college, I lived in the dorms, and didn't have enough room to keep leftovers in that microscopic fridge. So for a long while, I didn't eat any leftovers, but now, I'm eating more leftovers - it's way cheaper.

I hate to cook. Most nights I don't even "cook", but heat up something frozen or already in the refrigerator. I like to buy precooked things, or - when I cook - make way more than I need, on purpose. It's not leftovers - it's efficient time management. :)

I'd also say 4-7 days depending on how well you sealed them. I hate eating leftovers myself after the 3rd day but, I bet they are still good into the second week.

Amen. And even then I'll drink it... milk that's started to smell... no problem. I'll drink it. Now if it's gotten a bit chunky, that's when I'll pass...

My favorite is when I lived with my parents, my mom would smell some milk and say, "I wouldn't drink it, buts it okay for cereal". What does that mean? Its gone bad, but not that bad?

My parents wouldn't pay attention to the expiration date on the milk. Of course, sooner or later you run into some milk that starts to turn. I take those dates very seriously...

(on milk, that is. Now, other stuff you can get away with. Orange juice is probably fine for at least another month. :D )

This thread reminds me of the classic Simpsons episode in which Homer gets too sick to take Bart and Lisa to Duff Gardens because he keeps eating this humongous sandwich, even after having it around for several weeks!

Marge(while sitting in bed) : You aren't still eating that sandwich?
Homer: Marge, I need to be alone with the sandwich.

    :D
