http://www.foodallergytest.com/foodAllergydef.html This company called Sage Medical Laboratory advertises a test they do where they can detect what delayed food allergies you have. It's not allergy in the traditional sense of the word. They look for things that your body reacts to weeks down the line. However, some of the reactions talks about can be somewhat serious. One of those is somehow related to Crohn's Disease. My son has had Crohn's Disease since he was 6 (will be 12 in Dec) and has been struggling lately moreso than usual. Stomach pain, diahrrea, joint pain, all the typical Crohn's symptons plague him regularly. This website claims all of these could potentially be caused by these delayed food allergies that most doctors seem to ignore. Does anyone have any experience with this, or has done any research? I've never heard of anything like this. If it is real, and could potentially really help my son, I definitely want to pursue it, but I wanted to tap the BBS's collective experience/intelligence first because more often than not, SOMEONE on this board has checked into/experienced this stuff before. Thanks in advance.
I don't know about the validity of the website, but I know that food intolerance can cause a lot of problems and/or exacerbate a lot of conditions.
I will add that food allergies can be helped by unexpected sources. I have a wheat/gluten sensitivity that results in hives.. but for whatever reason, if i'm taking a multivitamin somewhat regularly, the sensitivity completely disappears. (i've done some extensive experimentation...those are definitely the factors)
I've done alot of research on these food allergy testing and these companies because I have personally benefitted from food allergy testing. I actually had a simple food allergy test done a few years back at the doctor's clinic and I was found to be allergic to corn based products. When I eliminated corn based foods like high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), my health improved in ways unimaginable. I used to have asthma, where I would have to take an inhaler once a day. Since eliminating HFCS, my asthma has dissapeared and I haven't taken an inhaler for breathing in 3 years. I used to take my inhaler daily for at least 15 years before that. Furthermore, I used to get tension in the throat and vocal cords, where sometimes it would be hard to speak and articulate words. This I noticed would happen after I drank a soda or ate some candy. I never put the two and two together until the food allergy test, but I realized all these foods had a common ingredient- which was HFCS. I've had more energy and life due to this. It also solved alot of my digestive problems as well. I recommend to everyone in my family and everyone I meet to get a food allergy test done. There can be things you are suffering from which you might think there is no hope for, but in fact it is due to what you are simply eating everyday. I've never used these online sites, but recently I ordered a kit from one of these online food allergy testing centers. http://www.foodallergy.com/tests.html#tests1 -- This company processes the blood sample for $139. http://www.greatplainslaboratory.com/home/eng/home.asp This company does the processeing for $200. And I think the one you linked at Sage is the most expensive, where they charge $1000 or so if you are paying cash. I did research on these companies a few months back, so I'm not 100% sure if these numbers are totally accurate though. I'm going with the Alletess to see if I had any changes with my food allergies since I haven't done a testing in a while. Basically they send you a vial for collecting a blood sample. The test kit costs $10, and you will need to go to some local clinic to get your blood drawn. You can go to any lab and get the blood drawn for like $20. You don't need a prescription to have your blood drawn, but you will need to send a prescription for a blood allergy test when you finally send in your blood specimen. The clinic that draws your blood will pack and ship and send the blood specimen in a pre packed ice contained next day delivery to the food allergy testing center. Hope that helps.
Food allergies are very real and cause major health problems. You are right to go see a specialist.. all of my clients who do report great outcomes
Mr. Brightside, DonnyMost, Are these tests typically covered by insurance? The website I linked said that they are, but tha with one of the two you linked, Brightside, as $1000 is a bit steep.
I think he's a personal trainer. They have good knowledge, if they care to. From what I know (years of hospital experience and current nursing student), and from what I've read from his posts, he is one who cares to have good knowledge.
