Anybody out there worried about this flu virus? How is it going in your community? We just recorded our first death from the flu: a 6 YO boy. As the father of a 2YO and a 4YO, I'm a tad concerned about this. Children are dying...
They ran out of them shots here, so I'm forced to get 'FluMist' tomorrow. Apparently there was a story on it today on ABC WNT. Anybody know anything about it? I don't want a flu shot or anything, at least not now, considering I'm having outpatient surgery to remove a metal plate in my chest in 13 days.
I got FluMist about a week ago...It's supposedly better because it contains the strains of the virus that are out there this year, and it works in 24 hours, not 2 weeks like the shot. It's also live virus, not dead.... My stomach hurt slightly for a few days...not sure if it's because of the fluMist or not
OH SWEET! Thanks for the info. If I get the flu from FluMist, at least I know I got the flu for $25 less! $25 off (PDF)
just happened to get the flu shot today after reading on another board about how bad the virus is this year. and then someone tells me the shot i took isn't gonna work against this new strain. just wonderful, huh?
i don't know if that's accurate or not...i heard a doctor say on the news that flu mist was not necessarily better than a flu shot...and that a flu shot and flu mist both blot out 80% of all strains... by all means...get a freaking flu shot...or flu mist...or whatever.
The only time I ever got a flu shot (3 years ago) I got the flu. I'm very worried about getting the flu, especially since I've got gigs every weekend through January. What I do is keep up my vitamin regimin every day, eat right, and I wear sweats to stay warm when I go to bed. Hopefully it will work. We'll see.
Same thing happened to me. I'd never got a shot before and three years ago I did (because they were free). Two weeks later I got sick as a dog! I had never had one before and haven't had one since.
You can't live your whole life in fear of getting sick...You can get all the flu shots you want, wash your hands 50 times a day, and disinfect your entire house, but as long as you have daily contact with other people, you run the risk of getting sick.
The flu shot is a dead virus and cannot cause the flu. I believe the nasal spray is live...so... giddyup, What 'community' are you in? We have a 2 year-old and 2-month old, so my wife, 2 year-old and myself all got shots for the first time to help protect the kids (we waited in line 2 1/2 hours!) BTW, the flu vaccine does not specifically target the strain that's causing much of the ruckus (FB lives), but it will help lessen the severity and reduce the chance of pheumonia if you do happen to get that strain (and the pneumonia is the biggest threat to the kids).
Just about everywhere I have ever worked has offered flu shots. At the only people who ever got the flu were the one's who got the shot's. Not exactly a clinical study, but I never get one.
I passed on the free flu shot as I do every year here at my job, mainly because I've never had the flu...and what do you know? I came down with the flu over Thanksgiving weekend and am just now starting to feel a little bit normal. I still have the cough and a sore back from the coughing and drainage, but damn. I wouldn't wish that on anyone. The fever, chills, rough cough, hot/cold sweats, upset stomach, etc...That was pure hell.
My Dad's in one of the Chicago Suburbs' paper today because they went to get flu shots yesterday. My Mom was pissed because he b****ed and moaned the whole way there, but he's the one that gets to be in the paper.
What do you mean by dead? I know my girlfriend's mom, whose cancer is in remission, can't get a flu shot.
