took my son to get his shot this afternoon. a lot of very worried parents at the drs.' office. i also heard there was a gi-huge-ic line at st. john the divine today for those who need shots. kerry's attempt to make political hay out of the shortage and pin the blame on bush has needlessly panicked many people, and betrays a fundamental lack of understanding of the cause of the vaccine shortfall. look for more of this kind of stuff if kerry wins- this is what happens when companies are so afraid of being sued they withdraw from a market.
So, Kerry points out an already existing problem and you try to pin the cause on HIM??? Are you delusional?
I seem to recall Bush telling us young and strong folk to not get a flu shot, to sacrifice for the old and really young. That's kind of funny, Bush actually asking everybody to make a sacrifice for the greater good, I digress. Anyways, why didn't you mention that?
Can you read? He blamed Kerry for the evidence of panic not for any shortage of vaccine. We all know that President Bush spit in the vat that was preparing the vaccine and that is why there is such a shortage...
And even that blame is sorely misplaced. And y'all accuse Kerry supporters of being blind partisans. Nobody said that, but the argument could be made that with more federal funding for healthcare, we might (and I stress the word MIGHT) not be in as bad a mess. Honestly, the way I understand it, the shortage happened because a major vaccine manufacturer folded. That cannot be blamed on Bush, but an administration with a responsible person looking at healthcare issues might (again, I stress might) have been able to foresee this crisis a bit earlier.
It's stupid of any party - Democratic or Republican - to argue about this. I have firsthand knowledge of the vaccine making business that I acquired not too long ago. If I'm not mistaken, the reason why it has problems is because it is a lousy, risky, low margin business without a lot of solid demand and with a crappy business model. End of story. Everybody stop.
then why is kerry attempting to do just that? and the issue is contamination of a vaccine, not the folding of a manufacturer. even less grounds for kerry's charges. they're reckless and irresponsible.
Bush said he didn't get a flu shot. Do you think that's true or was he just doing damage control? Why wouldn't he? Seems to me like POTUS should be first in line for one.
I laugh at those of you who think a flu shot actually helps. I've never had the flu and have never taken a flu shot. Three times my sister has taken the flu shot and gotten the flu. It's been proven to be a farce, as it was last year when it finally was reported that as the flu is really a living organism, it adapts, rendering all shots useless. Go ahead and get your flu shot and you'll most certainly be protected against LAST years flu. I prefer to save my time/money/effort.
This sentiment is held by others on the BBS. I just got the following message forwarded to me from a Lousisiana mental hospital:
The only year my father ever got the flu was the year he got a flu shot (he had it bad) ~ I will never get a flu shot for this reason. Flu shots should only be used for people who are at extreme risk; right now way too many people are getting shots because of misguided fear IMHO.
There's a shortage of flu vaccines. Kerry points this out. Kerry is accused of playing politics. Classic.
In case anyone has any questions about the Flu shot this small site has some answers. http://www.publichealthgreybruce.on.ca/Flu/flu_shot_myths.htm
Does anyone actually get protected by a flu shot? Most of them are based on flu's from seasons past which are wholly ineffective against flu viruses of today. Plus, something like 30 percent of people who get them end up catching the flu.
