This Flat-Earther Is About To Launch Himself In A Homemade Rocket To Prove Earth Is Flat

Flat-earther Mike Hughes with his steam-powered rocket.

This Saturday you'll be able to watch live streaming footage of a flat-earther as he tries to prove the Earth is flat. Mike Hughes and his homemade steam-powered rocket are working till the end, tweaking the rocket that will send him on a 500 mph mile-long flight across the Mojave Desert.

The ultimate goal? To prove astronauts, government agencies, and Elon Musk wrong; that the Earth is indeed a flat disk. To do this Hughes will climb aboard the rocket he built from scrap metal and launch himself 1,800 feet into the air in order to take photos proving the Earth is flat.

"I don't believe in science. I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the air, about the certain size of rocket nozzles, and thrust. But that’s not science, that’s just a formula. There’s no difference between science and science fiction.”Hughes told The Associated Press.

While this isn't the first time Hughes has launched himself on a homemade rocket, this will be the highest and farthest by far. The rocket will launch from a modified mobile home in the middle of the Mojave Desert. Meanwhile, he's noted that this is just his first phase in his flat-earth space program.

Mike Hughes, a limo-driver in California, has been in the spotlight before for his daredevil stunts. From a 2002 Guinness World Record limousine jump to various rocket launches, Hughes has made a name for himself with homemade stunts.

Eventually, Hughes plans to launch himself miles above the Earth and take photos of the flat Earth below. Hughes has often cited fake NASA and SpaceX launches, noting that NASA is controlled by a group of Freemasons and somehow that means they're all lying to us.

Thankfully, we have Hughes to debunk the round Earth claims and prove we all live on a disc. His first rocket launch was in 2014 when he rode his homemade rocket on a quarter-mile trek at Winkelman, Arizona.

The YouTube video below shows his short trip, ending with Hughes having to be dragged from the rocket. He would spend the next 2 weeks in a walker recovering from injuries. At this point, Hughes was not a flat-earth subscriber, riding the rocket primarily as a stunt.

In 2016 Hughes launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund his mile-long flight on a rocket. Unfortunately, he was only able to raise $310 of his $150,000 goal. Soon after, Hughes became a flat-earth believer, perhaps in an attempt to boost his funding base.

His second campaign on GoFundMe, this time titled "Flat Earth Community Rocket Launch" raised almost $8,000 toward Hughes rocket launch. It appears Hughes found the community he needed to help fund his homemade rocket.

Now, the rubber meets the road as Hughes launches himself this Saturday on his newest homemade rocket. He won't have the opportunity to test the rocket before he climbs in for its mile-long journey. The launch will be live streamed on Hughes' YouTube channel. The launch is scheduled between 2 and 3pm PST.

    Someone notify the Darwin Awards.

This sounds like the guy who welded a JATO unit (Jet-Assisted Take-off) to the back of his 1967 Chevy Impala to become a fine Darwin Award winner.

wait, 1,800'. Aren't there mountains taller than that? I'm pretty sure there are mountains taller than that.

Sounds like the dude is afraid he'll hit the roof of our snow-globe like atmosphere, if he goes too high.

At least he is brave but people are giving him money for potential suicide missions without much safety.

So he can cash in on insurance money.

I must admit, one positive of the whole flat earth movement is that it removes the religiosity component of science for some. When asked why people think the earth is round, a lot of people don't actually have good answers (not that those answers don't exist, it's just people took those claims at face value). Some went on, did research, and remembered stuff from gradeschool that they had long repressed.

Uh no, believing in something without the slightest fact of scientific evidence is actually the embodiment of religion. I don't think you understand science if you try to compare physics etc to religion.
Edit: Or did I read your post wrong and you're trying to say that people now actually look up scientific facts and do research, in order to prove flat-earthers wrong?

One thing I've always wondered about the flat earth theory is how do they explain time zones?

Why can you see the Earth's rounded nature from atop Everest? Fake news?

Pretty sure there are some buildings taller than this in the world also. Could of saved himself some money and just gone to one of them.

Look up their websites, it's actually nearly impossible to debunk their stuff because they come up with fake physics for every single aspect and have created their completely own physical model.

Only thing that really works is them witnessing round earth first-hand, but I bet even then they'll probably come up with curvature of space/light or wtf do I know.

People are now reading on why flat earthers are wrong is where I was going. For a lot of people, they knew the earth was round, but not why or how we came to that conclusion.
