30 days I think... from Reagans death or funeral.

Protocol for the death of a President is 30 days from the day of death. However, I don't recall Nixon getting this much time... maybe just my failing memory.

Yeah, I read it is 30 days as well - which is standard protocol (in the US Code) for US Presidents, if they want it.

The reason it didn't apply to Nixon is that he decided to forgo all the fanfare of the presidency, which was probably due to his reasons for departure as President.

That's why he didn't have a state funeral like Reagan, and all the other trappings.

Title 36, Section 10 of the U.S. Code:

The flag shall be flown at half-staff thirty days from the death of the President or a former President; ten days from the death of the Vice President, the Chief Justice or a retired Chief Justice of the United States, or the Speaker of the House of Representatives; from the day of death until interment of an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, a Secretary of an executive or military department, a former Vice President, or the Governor of a State, territory, or possession; and on the day of death and the following day for a Member of Congress.

They have all kinds of meds for this condition now. So "hang" in there, and you'll be back to "No Worries" soon!

So the flags I seen at full mast are breaking the law?

I say they deserve the death penalty! Although, burning them would seem awfully ironic.

hmmm...on second thought, maybe they should be sentenced to remain at half mast for the rest of their life. that'll teach 'em.
