Fizer arrested after loaded gun found in vehicle

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Associated Press

CHICAGO -- Chicago Bulls forward Marcus Fizer was charged with having a loaded gun in his car and driving with a suspended license early Sunday morning.

Illinois State Police Sgt. Wayne Winterberg said Fizer was pulled over just after 2 a.m. for having illegal tinted windows on his sport-utility vehicle.

Police then found Fizer was driving with a suspended license. While preparing to tow his car, police searched it and found a .40-caliber gun, Winterberg said.

Fizer appeared before Cook County Circuit Court Judge Margaret Mary Brosnahan, who set bond at $5,000, said Marcy Jensen, a spokesman for the Cook County state attorney. Jensen said that Fizer, released after posting bond, is due back in court Oct. 21.

"He is charged with having (the gun) in his car and readily accessible,'' Jensen said. ``He said he needed a gun for protection, according to prosecutors.''

The 24-year-old Fizer was drafted out of Iowa State fourth overall by the Bulls in 2000.

The Bulls did not immediately return telephone calls to The Associated Press.

just another day in the world of sports.

Was the gun licensed? If you're licensed and in texas, can you have a gun in your car? What do these guys do in their daily lives that they are constantly living in fear? Just some questions that randomly popped into my head.

Jeez, if I was an NBA player, I can't imagine anyplace I would go where I'd need a gun. And if I had NBA player money, what would I need a gun at home when I could get a security system. The only NBA players who need guns are the ones that hunt or target shoot. Except the ones that are careless like Jayson Williams.

As ridiculous as it sounds to be driving around with a loaded gun. You hear of all the stories such as Paul Pierce getting stabbed. Stephon Marbury getting mugged and being jacked of a $250,000 necklace. I'm not saying its right to be driving around with a loaded gun, but the more money you have the more problems as well.

Ok, I forgot about Marbury. Pierce was attacked in a club, so unless he went in illegaly with a gun, it wouldn't have made a diff. You have a point, the flashy cars they drive are magnets for car jackers.

Didn't Mario Elie get robbed about a year or two getting out of or into his car? In fact right now On E! TV I'm looking at a program about celebrity stalkers and it's scary stuff. I can't fault some of these people for carrying guns even if I'm not a fan of guns. I don't think flashy cars or anything like that attracts these nuts, I think it's the fact that these people are well known and people think they can make a name for themselves at their expense.

I guess this makes Fizer a player to watch out for...if I had that kind of money (and was famous and was a thug...) I would just get a bodyguard.

In Illlinois, it's against the law to have your front windows tinted. It's hardly ever enforced, but cops do pull people over for it from time to time.

That got him pulled over. Most times it's a ticket and you're gone.

But Marcus was driving on a suspended license. That gets you arrested. THATS what he was arrested for. They search the car during any arrest and thats when the handgun popped up.

Antoine Walker was robbed last season while in Chicago of $50000 in jewelry. His teammate Jalen Rose was almost carjacked in LA.

When the wrong people realize who you are, you become a target. I'd rather have the arrest and live another day---than not have it and see a premature end to my season, career, or life.

Crooks don't look for rich famous people, they look for rich people. If you don't want hassles, many can be avoided by not flaunting your wealth (or attitude) in the wrong situation. Driving with a suspended license with your front window tinted (?) and carrying a gun is a ridiculous thing to do. If a person wants to live a life that puts him/ her in dangerous situations they should use a small percent of their millions on a bodyguard. If a crook is stalking an individual, knowing that he will have to deal with professional gun carrying BG is going to cause second thoughts. I would bet Ray Lewis wishes he had that option when he found himself in the middle of a knife fight, that almost cost him life in prison.
