http://www.fiveguys.com/ Has anyone tried this place? We went vacationing in eastern Virginia (Hampton Roads) and went to this place two days in a row. BEST value you can find. I got a 1/3lbs burger and they have a bunch of toppings to choose from, free of charge. I got mayo, ketchup, onions, MUSHROOMS and cheese. Also have great fries. My fiance and I ordered a large fries, thinking it would be enough to split... HOLY MOLY that alone could feed a family of four. Probably a half pound of seasoned fries for a few bucks. Made from real peanut oil and fresh cut potatoes done in-house. This places has won atleast 40 "Best BUrger in town" awards from cities all along the eastern part of the country. Have you tried Five Guys? PS... PLEASE come to TX 'Guys!
I went up in DC once. Yeah, it's got a pretty good taste/feel/price combo to it. I think if you do some quick googling you'll find these guys are about to make a serious franchising push....so I'd expect Texas shortly.
I just had Chris Madrid's in SA the other night; supposedly it was voted 2nd best burger in the world by some magazine. I wasn't that impressed; Longhorn Cafe in SA blows it away IMO.
I went there more than a few times. Above average burger for a chain, but its greasy and you smell like it all day after eating one. I like in and out a little more, but there are more than a fair share of places near me in NYC.
Oh yeah. I had it in waldorf MD while visiting my girls folks. They know how to pile on the fries and the burgers are fantastic. Plus they aren't small either, they are big burgers. Nyquil 82, I don't know what if you've ever had steak and shake but i can tell you that the burgers at five guys does not make you smell like it all day. Steak and shake though will make your hands/fingers smell the whole day, i can't stand it. IN n out is still tops in my book.
Have you guys been to Mel's Country Cafe in Tomball? It's nothing fancy -- it's like a big trailer really -- but mean, mean burgers. Real good. Great onion rings too. And their prices are ridiculously low. http://www.texasburgerguy.com/2004/12/review-1-mels-country-cafe-tomball.html
Went there every single Xmas break when I would visit my folks in VA. Now they have a couple of them down here in Florida where I go to school. I'd expect to see them in TX soon. The food: my God. One of the best burgers you will find for a "fast food price". But don't be mistaken, they aren't fast food. Burgers are made to order and are never frozen, deliciously fresh toppings, and boardwalk-style fries that are cooked in peanut oil (imparts a uniquely delicious tasted). And their "regular" size burgers are basically doubles, and their junior (don't know if that is the actual name) burgers are basically a normal-sized burger. You can get STUFFED off of one of their junior burgers and an order of fries. Gets two thumbs up in my book. In fact, I may go get some right now!
There's one literally right outside my apartment... I think I'm going to go get some in a little while. The folks in this thread are right... it's pretty damn good.
Discovered them at OBX and also had them in C-Ville. Fantastic joint. Any place that gives you vinegar for the fries is top notch. I'd weigh 300 if they came to Houston. Evan
I live in central VA and I just ate their this afternoon!! It's definitely my favorite burger chain... and the fries are the best!! not to mention that they impale the inside of your bad with fresh fries even after the container is full.
lol yeah, we ordered a large order, and he packed them in a 20-27oz cup, then threw it atleast another quater of a pound ontop
I go there every couple of weeks or so. Can't beat the never-frozen meat and the fresh potatoes used on the fries. For those reasons (and the fact that it's real meat), at least it's healthier than fast food joints.. and tastes better. Cajun fries rock the house
Just had them for the first time on Monday here in Atlanta. Damn good food for a cheap price. I got regular bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions, mushrooms, japapenos, bbq sauce, lettuce and tomato for $5. It was enormous. I could have gone with a junior (just 1 patty instead of 2 on the regular) with all those toppings and it still would have been a lot. I ordered fries thinking it'd be the amount a normal fast food restaurant gives. Wrong, easily 3 times a McD's large fries.
