    I stole this from Insider...

    Lakers Bring Back Fisher
Jul 12 - Derek Fisher and the Lakers have agreed to a three-year contract worth about $13,959,000, league sources said.
However, there will be a holding period before he can sign the contract. It'll take seven days before Fisher can clear waivers, and that won't start until his previous contract of $20,592,600 that he walked away from is amended to zero dollars.

As of Wednesday night, the Jazz had not filed the paperwork with the NBA about Fisher's release. The seven-day countdown to Fisher's being free and able to sign with the Lakers won't start until Utah does.

Fisher's contract with the Lakers will start at $4.3 million, which is less than the mid-level exception for next season at $5.3 million. -- Riverside Press-Enterprise

Fisher is expected to sign a three-year deal, starting at about $4.5 million. He has been determined to relocate to Los Angeles to get specific treatment for his 1-year-old daughter Tatum's rare form of eye cancer. The Lakers need a veteran ball-handling guard and value Fisher's leadership and triangle-offense knowledge. -- Orange County Register

How is he going to concentrate on his daughter's cancer if he's on the road half the year?

At least he CAN focus on it when he's at home now, since LA has the medical facilities that Utah didn't. Half the season is a lot more than none.

I thought it had to do with being in a city where there was better access to the specific care she needed.

Isn't MD Anderson the leading cancer treatment and research hospital in the US?

The guy is a multi multi millionair so when he said he was leaving basketball (turns out just Utah) to care for his daughter I thought he meant just that. I will hold off judging the guy but it sounds very strange because if he is going to play for the Lakers he is still going to be away from home most of the time.

whatever, I hope it works out for his daughter regardless of what he does.

its all about the $$$. not even a kid with cancer can prevent money from being the most important thing.

I am also sure he is the lifeline for many people in his family. he also seems like a guy who would pay for any kind of treatment to help his daughter and the non traditional ones get very expensive.

You guys are pathetic. It's not like it would be right for him to stay with his daughter 24/7. The kid probably knows daddy stopped doing what he loved doing for her, she would probably want her father to continue doing his job....

I don't recall Fisher saying he was quitting basketball. I thought this was the plan all along, that he asked Utah to release him so he could sign with a team in one of those few cities that could care for his daughter.

Whats wrong with him playing ball? When he says he's taking care of his daughter, that doesnt mean that he needs to be with her every second of the day.

He's in a city that has the resources to treat his girl's condition. He'll be home half the time. Nothing wrong with him having a job...his baby is getting the medical attention she needs and thats all that matters.

If money was the most important thing he would have stayed in Utah.

Be honest, Fisher has found out what a Suck place Utah is.. If we had to live in Utah AND play for the Jazz, we would want to get out too. :p I have no sympathy for that stupid City who supports fags like Boozer, plus it's good to get a taste of their own Medicine.

It works cuz he's Derek Fisher, a veteran role player with a lot of miles on him and not so difficult to replace. If it were Deron Williams not a chance Utah just lets him go. There'd be lawyers and all kinds of chaos.

2nd, it was his way out of Utah :p He probably though ya know, it really wasnt so bad on the west coast, & I left a really good thing in L.A. for the bigger money...now I've made my money, got some respect around the league and can leverage the best situation for my daughter AND myself ;)

More power to him for it.

I'm glad he signed with the Lakers. As a player, Fisher is a shadow of his former mediocre self and will help keep them down.

Of course, I wish his daughter the best. It pains me thinking about the whole thing.
