To Republicans eyeing the upcoming election season, the details of the tax increase was not at issue. A tax increase is a tax increase. "We can just say they're raising taxes because people have such a low opinion of the Democratic Congress that they are certainly willing to believe that they are raising their taxes," Cole said.

Nice. Essentially, 'we'll decieve the American public, because we are sure they will buy it'. He shows himself as a slimy shyster who doesn't mind lying, and disdainfully expresses his opinion that the American public is a bunch of 'easy marks' all in one sentence. If I were campaigning against Mr. Cole, this sentence would appear in every political ad.

God forbid that we balance the budget by cutting entitlements, corporate welfare (it's at an all-time high), or bringing the troops home. We'd much rather have more taxes.
