THIENSVILLE, Wis. -- Paul Mokeski, the former NBA player who recently became coach of the ABA's Kansas City Knights, has been charged with misdemeanor possession of cocaine.

Mokeski, 43, played at Kansas and spent 12 years in the NBA with Houston, Detroit, Cleveland, Milwaukee and Golden State. He
recently moved from California to Overland Park, Kan.

According to the charge filed Wednesday in Ozaukee County Circuit Court, police stopped Mokeski early June 9 on suspicion of drunken driving, and he was booked into the jail at 4:05 a.m.

While he was being searched, deputies found a folded paper with "a white powdery substance which appeared to be cocaine," the
    complaint says.

"It was confiscated from Mr. Mokeski and after advising him of his rights, he indicated it was cocaine that was in the folded paper and he had paid $100 for the cocaine," the complaint says.

Mokeski told deputies "he had snorted a couple of lines of the cocaine about an hour before he was stopped by police," the
complaint says, and "he also indicated that he uses cocaine on a regular basis."

Mokeski was ordered to appear Aug. 10 before Circuit Judge Tom R. Wolfgram. He could face up to a year in prison and $5,000 fine if
convicted. He also was issued municipal citations for drunken driving and speeding.

Knights general manager Tom Cheatham issued a statement saying the team was investigating the incident.

The Associated Press tried to reach Mokeski for comment Friday night but his telephone number was unlisted.

Since you brought it up [IMG]

One big difference is that Mokeski got caught being a "recreational user" [IMG] while Sammy got nailed with enough to take him down for dealing.

When is the American public going to get over this Victorian attitude of attempting to legislate morality? BTW, that's a rhetorical question as it's something that isn't going to change any time soon [IMG]

What a coincidence I was just watching a game of Mokeski a few days ago and I remember saying to myself "Look at that fat slob he cant play" It was a game vs the blazers from the 88-89 season. Now I hear the guy is sniffing that garbage.
