Miami is #2, just percentage points ahead of OU. USC is #1. But to me this is a joke as Miami is nowhere near the 2nd best team in the country. If they played OU right now, they would get hammered.
Dude, why don't they just leave the dang formula alone? Almost every year they "tweak" it to address certain problems that fans have. This years formula is the worst, IMO. I liked the schedule of strength and bonus points for big wins.
How on earth did the BCS big whigs justify removing strength of schedule? Might as well line up all the cream puffs from the weak conferences for your non-conference schedule to go 13-0 if you're a powerhouse in Conference USA, the WAC, MAC or any other small conference.
Although it was removed from the BCS formula, I'm pretty sure it's still used by all of the computers when determining their rankings. The BCS is just a joke, will we ever see an eight, or even four team playoff, anything is better than the current system.
It is still in some of the computer ratings. But the top and bottom computer scores are thrown out. I can't remember which website it was, but I think it was cbssportsline that had a good overview of the 6 different computer rankings, and what each one measures. Interesting stuff, especially the ones that tend to favor late season wins over early season wins and stuff like that. I'm most interested to see if a team like Utah can make it into the BCS. Sure, they could be for real, but i don't see many people really wanting them to be in a big money game. Could y'all imagine a team like Utah and West Virginia making the BCS games, while some other high quality at-large teams are left out? (Obviously, West Virginia would be a conference champ, but Utah, if it's top 6 in the BCS, is guaranteed a spot.)
a playoff is better than the bcs. the bcs is better than the old system. unfortunately for the bcs, it is hated the most when it does exactly what it was put in place to do. see last year, we have 3 1 loss teams to pick from, exactly what the bcs was meant for. but that creates the most controversy and the most hate for the bcs. only when it tells us what we already know do we accept it. nevertheless, a system to set up a NC game is better than bowl games played all over the place against teams of widely varying ranks. i agree with removing SOS as it was already in the pollsters' minds and the computer formulas. i like this current system over any previous incarnations of the bcs as i believe the human polls were the most important thing all along. essentially we just needed something to let us have a title game (if there wasn't going to be a playoffs). something to let #1 and #2 play. for the most part, the human polls get this right. it's just there was nothing that allowed those teams to play so we invented the complex and convoluted bcs. now it's simplified with a computer component to sort of break the tie among human voters and it weights your relative strengths in each poll. while i don't necessarily like tweaking the formula every year to give us the title game we wanted last year, i do like this tweak as long as we have to have the bcs. and anything that screws ou (even in favor of miami) is fine with me.
Okay, like you're really a Miami football expert. It's not like you were on the field working for ESPN last week, watched one of the most amazing comebacks ever (that, by the way, only THE BEST team can come back from a 31-14 deficit in the third quarter), AND met and took a pic of Jill Arrington. The only thing that sucks is their updated unis this year.
I take it you are talking to me. Look, I have followed Miami for over 20 years. Berlin is the worst QB Miami has had since Frank Costa. Do you even know who Frank Costa is? I say you probably don't. The offense is unimaginable and vanilla. Berlin cannot handle pressure nor can he play under center; doing only well in the shotgun formation. And to make things worse, the defense that I thought was better than last year is obviously not that good. That is great that you are going there; I envy you, Mooch, because I would have loved to go to the U, but it was too far and too expensive for me. I understand that going to school there will make you a homer, but you aren't going to find a bigger homer for Miami on this board than me. You don't believe me? Read this thread: I challenge you, after reading this thread, to doubt my allegiances. I just happen to be a realist; sue me. However, be rest assured that if Miami pulls an "Ohio State" and win the NC, I will be the first to eat crow and admit that I am wrong. EDIT - And I never said that Miami sucked, so please don't put words in my mouth.
Oh I completely agree with you; Berlin isn't a great QB, but Wright does suck. It also doesn't help Berlin that he's got to live up to Dorsey. I think Berlin is a great team leader; he can't throw worth ****, no doubt. He's the best option and so far he has been CLUTCH when it's counted. I never said you said anything sucked; I was just saying how the only thing I don't like (in fact detest) is the updated line that goes around the back as opposed to the lines that went down the side in the past 3 or 4 years. No doubt I'll say you're the best Miami fan there is on this board. Yes, Berlin is the worst QB at UM in years, but he is basically the only option. I don't even consider him the #1 option on this team; you've got great wide receivers and a solid running back that have been able to make Berlin look tolerable.
UH OU 13 63 points 282 583 yards MIA UH 38 13 points 271 285 yards yeah.. I gotta go with OU being the better team.
