I think one thing that our team could really use is to get some firepower that can come off the bench. How about Michael Redd? He could probably get plenty of minutes coming off the bench. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/buck/oct04/267754.asp Michael Redd will be an unrestricted free-agent at season's end, permitting any team in the league to sign him to a contract. For the first time since before they trashed the budget in the unsuccessful run at the 2001 NBA title, the Bucks will be in good salary-cap shape for 2005. They will have money to spend in the free-agent market and would be able to afford Redd should he choose Milwaukee as a relatively permanent career destination. Fortunately, the Bucks might not have a lot of competition for Redd's services. Not many teams would be below the cap to the point where they could pay something close to a maximum salary, depending on Redd's accomplishments this season. But even if Redd decided to move on, the Bucks would still have sizable cap room to fill the shooting guard spot. In such a scenario, Ray Allen's return would not be a distinct possibility. Also a free agent at the end of the season, Allen has made it reasonably clear that he doesn't intend to re-sign with Seattle. Those who have had semi-recent conversations with Allen say he still misses Milwaukee, plus the major roadblock for a possible homecoming, George Karl, has been removed. Redd is well aware of the options that will be presented to him on July 1st. He knows he could be a Buck for life, gone by February or playing elsewhere next season. In any case, he also knows he's going to make a lot more than the $3 million he'll earn this year. "But when you start talking contracts and money, that's when the fun leaves," Redd said Monday. "I just want to have fun this year."
Redd is going to go for a lot of money. The Rockets can't afford him. Forget about acquiring him at all as a free agent, much less paying him to come off the bench.
One thing that our team could really use is a lights out three point shooter and Redd will definitely help in that area. Can you imagine a lineup like this... PG-Lue/Ward/Redd SG-TMac/Redd SF-JJ/Redd PF-Howard/Taylor C-Ming/Mutombo I know that we have Sura, but I think we could really use Redd here. Also he is only 25 years old!!!
What the Hell?! Redd is an ALLSTAR calibar player, he will NOT be coming off the bench. For ANYONE. We have Yao and Tmac, we will NOT be able to get another allstar. Somebody shoot me please.
Why wait til the end of the season? It's obvious Redd wants out. He's not having fun. Yao jokes and makes people have fun, so it's obvious Redd would demand to come here or bail on Milwaulkee. It's TMac all over again. Spoon + 1st rounder for Redd + TJ Ford. Make it happen CD.
"Why wouldn't I start? I'm the franchise player here. I don't know any franchise players that come off the bench. I don't know any All-Star that comes off the bench.I don't know any first team All-NBA (player) that comes off the bench. Why Michael Redd? Why should I come off the bench? ... I think it is an insult to me. "
I see Redd becoming an overpaid 2 guard on the scale of Allen Houston, who I would rather have anyway. Redd had a spectacular year 2 years ago, coming off of the bench, but as a starter he looked fairly ordinary. I would rather have Cat who is a better defender and put up better numbers on offense when given the opportunity to be the #1 option, as Redd was.
I agree. Allan Houston had some serious hype going into his contract year too, and everyone now sees how much the Knicks overpaid him. There is way too much hype on Redd now. His name was mentioned a thousand times during the Olympics.
Welsch would be a nice player coming off the bench for us. He is a FA next summer and will probably leave since Boston has Pierce, Tony Allen, Delonte West, Ricky Davis manning the SG/SF position.
His name was mentioned because he is one of the best shooters in the game, and a guy who would have not turned down the chance to go. Redd, Duncan, and 3 guys from the ymca could have won the gold medal (providing the refs gave Duncan the opportunity to play). another thing about this topic: why would we want Redd to come off the bench? He'd fit our team perfectly, and he and Yao would have a field day playing together. Hell, make JJ be our firepower off the bench.
It's crazy to think of Redd coming off the bench. He's one of the best pure shooters in the NBA right now. He would be a perfect fit if we can afford him.
No way in hell can we afford redd. He is way better than JJ and wouldnt want to come here and be a 3rd option. Whoever said TJ redd for spoon and first rounder is full of ****. This thread is sick.
