Last night, after messing with my high-speed connection (disabling, then enabling it), I opened up Firefox to find that all my bookmarks were gone. I did a google search and discovered that this was a common problem but I tried all the fixes listed and still can't recover them. I also did a bbs search and found a few threads, then tried everything in them and still nothing. Man, I had about 40 bookmarks and many of them were sites that I have no idea what the actual address is. I've got to get these bookmarks back. I know they have to be on my computer somewhere. Any of you Firefox pro's have any suggestions? From what I understand, this has something to do with my profile, but I can't seem to figure out how to get to it. Help me Firefox pro's, you're my only hope..
Step 1 Ctrl+Alt+Del Check if there are any instances of Firefox running. Close all of them. Step 2 Start > Run firefox.exe -profilemanager Choose your profile. Step 3 ??? Step 4 PROFIT!
Tried Miguel's suggestions after it happened to me a few months ago, but to no avail. It wasn't a profile mishap. I run a pretty tight ship, nary a stray cookie or adware to be found, but it happens to the best of us. My best suggestion would be to copy your bookmarks.htm file ever week or so just in case it happens again (which, according to some others, is a likely scenario). I lost about seven years worth of bookmarks, if you can believe it, carried over from computer to computer since 1998. I love Mozilla but surfing hasn't been the same since.
Yeah, my fix is one of the more common problems. It's happened to tons of people I know and that has solved it for just about everyone. With computers though...random **** can just happen and your stuff can ...well, disappear. Doesn't happen all that often...but it does, as KellyDwyer can confirm. If that doesn't work...then, sorry. I'm sure you have the more important URLs (ie: Pr0n) etched into your brain though.
Thanks man, I'll give this a try when I get home. The fix I tried last night told me to type in 'firefox.exe -p' which seemed kind of odd. Maybe the 'rofilemanager' part was left out for some reason. I kept trying to type '-p' and I would just get the Firefox start page. I hope this works. I've got to get all my p*rn...er, my educational bookmarks back!
-p probably should have worked to...except you'd have to make sure that there are no instances of firefox.exe running in your taskmanager beforehand to be able to get the profile manager open
Also, I didn't make this clear in my post (more of a vent, sorry), but Miguel's suggestions were echoed net-wide and (more often that not) wildly sucessful.
