http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/ Firefox 3.1 beta 2: Hey, this browser is FAST! I love playing with beta software. There's something about using, buggy, unfinished programs that really gets my blood racing - kind of like jumping out of an airplane with a prototype parachute. But even I have my limits, and I'd been wary about trying the latest beta of Firefox 3.1, the next iteration of my current favorite browser. Still, I kept seeing comments that called to me, such as this one: damn, firefox 3.1 beta 2 is fast. incredible. . . . and this one: not sure if it's faster or not -- firefox 3.1 is already freakishly fast On Monday night, I succumbed and downloaded Firefox 3.1 beta 2. Shortly afterward, I posted my own reaction on Twitter: whoa! this browser is FAST. Read more: http://blogs.chron.com/techblog/
I'm still using the 2.0018 w/e version right now. I hated the Firefox 3 but I'll give it a shot if works much better.
I've been using this for about the past month or so (Minefield) and agree...the javascript engine re-write is going to do wonders for FF. It is definitely faster when rendering pages with javascript embedded...even though they say it's in beta mode, I've run into no problems at all...with the exception of a few add-ons that aren't ready to work with it yet.
On one of my computers, FF will instantly crash/turn off my computer when certain java scripts are used. I've reformated and reinstalled a different version of XP and it still does the same.
I tried it, it really doesn't seem that much faster IMO. There are a lot of add-ons that don't work with it either. Maybe when they are done with it I'll give it another shot.
Anyone else have problems on the Chron.com site? Some pages are really slow, I'm guessing it's javascript problems, but I'm not sure.
The FF browsers are fast when there's 3 browser windows and less. But then they starting HOGGING MY CPU like crazy after opening tabs and stuff. Clutchfans pages with embedded youtube vids, FORGET IT. Especially the 2.0 version, hated that browser. The add-ons are nice though, and 3.0 has been slightly better. Same with Google Chrome, definitely is fast but to me it takes a lot of CPU to be fast. I'm trying Opera now, any recommendations on a lightweight browser?
I haven't even used Firefox since 2003,and then is it working pretty well? I've been using Safari for ages and it agrees with me freaken wellany suggestion that which one is better,Safari or Firefox?
My Firefox updated last night. I think it's great with the exception of having to click the flash icons to get them to run. I would like them to run automatically but I can't find an option to select to get it to do that. Anybody?
is this minefield? I've been running minefield for a while but haven't really paid attention in terms of if the updates you get on minefield are equivalent to firefox beta updates?
