There won't be any big surprises from the PR, but the fact that we've all been supporting something that's finally "arrived" so to speak, is great. Thanks to everyone here who is a Firefox proponent, and to those who aren't users yet, give us 30 minutes and we'll give you the world wide web. Today is a big day for the internet . . . me too the release candidates didnt support my favorite extension, so I stuck with 0.9 also...I figured the best bet would be to wait for the official production release.
So...I'm using mozilla on multiple computers at the office. Do I have to uninstall Mozilla and then install the new version, or is it an update?
I'm no computer geek but I'd imagine you'd just install over the old one. No uninstalling needed. Computer geeks correct me if I'm wrong.
I noticed that too Faos. Anyhow, I have it installed now. Will look for other themes now.... Thanks for the heads up vengeance, Happy Firefox 1.0 day everyone.
So it's out? Sweet, I was going to reinstall Windows XP today...and now I can christen it with a brand new Firefox! Been using Firebird/Firefox since about August/Sept of last year. It's a great browser, and gets better with every release.
Questions: I've never used it before, is firefox really worth the trouble of installing an extra browser instead of windows explorer? Can you guys share why you think firefox is that much better? Currently windows explorer fulfills all my needs, so my question isn't just whether firefox is better than explorer, but whether firefox is worth the hassle and computer resources to install in addition to explorer. thanks!
It's not a hassle at all, takes like 40 seconds, and "resources" is maybe 10 MB of hard drive space. Try it. If you don't like it, don't use it. But you'll like it. It renders pages faster than IE, has fewer security problems, doesn't let spyware in, blocks pop-ups, plus it has tabbed browsing, which is totally awesome. My thoughts on 1.0 The toolbar has been changed a bit, as they added the "Go" button by default. That was a big point of contention for some detractors. The Firefox icon is a bit different than the old one -- it's lighter in shade, and the "world" is a bit different. So is the firefox's tail. Only reason I know this is because I have both icons right next to eachother (old and new) on the desktop. FINALLY, a button has been added to apply the proxy setting from http to all protocols. I am so thankful!!!!! The new "firefox start page" is kind of neat. I wish it had current firefox news on it, but other than that it's pretty cool. That's about all I've found so far. Looking forward to seeing if there are any other changes from the PR. I'm going to add news links to my first post.
Oh, great news. Well, the board introdued me to Firefox. I was a die hard explorer guy before. NOw, i'm all about firefox. Once you go firefox, you never go back. All those sites were pretty slow when I went there a few minutes ago, I guess I have to wait 'till tomorrow to get my hands on 1.0.
I installed it this morning. Here's a question. I left the house for a couple of hours, came back and noticed my computer didn't go to the screensaver or sleep mode as it usually would before. It was still showing the same web page I had up when I left. Could Firefox have changed a setting?
If for no other reason, I think people ought to install it because it's safer. But I believe there are too many other reasons to mention all of them. I can't live without tabbed browsing, not to mention being able to print a page without the text being chopped off on the right side. And I love all the extensions you can get for Firefox. Here are a few I have installed: 1. Foxy Tunes. Allows you to control your media player of choice (Windows Media Player, iTunes, MusicMatch, Winamp, whatever) from the status bar at the bottom of the browser. It's just convenient. 2. Weather Fox. Check the weather just by hovering over an icon in the status bar. 3. ColorZilla. Find out what any color is on a web page by clicking on an icon in the status bar and then clicking on the color you want to know about. Great if you work on Web pages. 4. HTML Validator. Vallidates a Web page when you click on View > Page Source. Also good for people who work on Web pages. 5. Image-Show-Hide. Choose whether or not a Web page downloads images with the click of a button on the Navigation Toolbar (i.e., the main toolbar, with the home page, refresh, and stop buttons). 6. Sage. An RSS reader. I'll stop there for now, but there are a bunch of extensions, and I'm confident there are more to come. If none of these interest you, I'm sure some of the others would. Check them out: https://update.mozilla.org/extensions/
It's been more than 30 minutes. How about now? I've been putting off doing a fresh install of XP. I said I was going to do it when SP2 came out, but I haven't yet. But I may have to break down and do it now.
