http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.0rc1/ You might want to get it before it's posted on www.mozilla.org. I imagine the servers will be pretty busy then.
It's the first non-beta release candidate... so yeah, you can consider it an update over what you're probably running now.
Cool thanks. I am using the "old beta" version then. I can't use my IE because A. There is some kind of spyware I can't seem to get rid of that loads pop ups when I use IE. B. It sucks. Oh yeah....there are a lot of files. Which one should be downloaded?
If you're on Windows, you can d/l the 8.6M, 6.3M, or the 4.7M one (those are the sizes). Try the one named "Firefox Setup (1.0rc1, en-US).exe". It's the one that is 4.7M in size.
Thanks TraJ, and DoD for telling which one to download. Not noticing much of a difference, except it loads even more lightning quick.
I think we've reached the stage where we can install over the top, but I uninstalled first -- just in case. All you settings will be saved even if you uninstall. Just a note: This release breaks several extensions. If you rely heavily on the extensions, you might wait a little while before downloading, letting the people who write them catch up. Then again, this release fixed some security issues, so that's probably more important.
Are there any themes that will work with this new release yet? I tried installing a few of the most popular on the themes page, but they arent compatible.
I'm sure it's hit or miss, just as it is with the extensions right now. I wouldn't even try these kinds of things until after the November 9th release of version 1.0. After that, I suspect we'll see a lot of updates for themes and extensions.
Yeah. Just upgraded and I definitely think it's a little faster, which is good, cause the speed has been my only compaint with Firefox.
Hey guys, would any of you all be interested in joining us for the Firefox 1.0 Release Party? I'm not sure where we're going to have it yet, but I'm going to be doing most of the planning (although I'm not attending, I don't think). I'm thinking Live Sports Cafe would be a great place, but locations are still in discussion. BTW, right now it's planned for around the 19th, but I'm thinking of trying to do it earlier because I'll be out of town then. FF 1.0 is releasing on/around Nov. 9.
Sorry, I'm too busy with my weekly "Norton Updated Virus Definitions" party to attend. "W32.Gaobot.BOW" and "Backdoor.Ranky.J" are supposed to be coming out soon, so those will be a real barn burner.
