Everyone at the office was raving about a cancelled TV series called Firefly. Written by Joss Whedon of Buffy fame, it is essentially a western in space with a privateer feel. So, I had a lot of time on my hands in my travels to Los Angeles so I bought the DVD set. OH MY GAWD !!! This is the best TV series I have ever seen, the characters are fantastic, and the acting and writing is superb. Now, they are making a movie...which I think is ok, but I want the series back.... Dang, Firefly is good ! Anyone else seen them? DD
I watched all of the episodes when they origionally aired. I was a great show that was killed off right when it was starting to get really great. At least they are making the movie that you mentioned.
Joss Whedon is a genius. Everything he's done I've liked. Except Titan AE. Never saw that. The guy co-wrote Toy Story fer cryin out loud!
When watched in the episodes' intended order, Firefly is a good show that looked like it was headed for greatness. Unfortunately Fox is infamous for killing off the shows with the greatest potential in favor of reality TV crap. Fortunately, the Firefly universe will live on in some form. I hope it's a success, if for no other reason than it gives Joss more clout to bring Buffy and/or Angel to the big screen(assuming he and the cast members are interested).
http://www.fireflyfans.net/news.asp?newsid=473 IT'S OFFICIAL! FIREFLY MOVIE IS GREENLIGHTED!!! Posted by Haken on Tuesday, March 02, 2004 21:41 Source: Official Firefly Forum TIMES READ: 24666 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The following is from Variety. Quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Whedon's 'Serenity' greenlit U moves forward on sci-fi spinoff By GABRIEL SNYDER Universal Pictures has greenlit "Serenity,'' the feature film based on Joss Whedon's Fox TV series "Firefly,'' which was canceled in late 2002 after just 11 episodes. Deals are in place for Whedon to direct and for the original cast of the TV show to reprise their roles. The pic, budgeted in the mid-eight figures, is scheduled for a June start and should be ready for a 2005 release. After Fox pulled the plug on "Firefly," Whedon struggled to continue the project, speaking with other nets and cablers about the series, then finally turning to studios about a feature version. Universal acquired the feature rights from Fox last fall. Whedon said the pic will be released under the title "Serenity" to give it some distance from the TV version. "It was important that people understand that the movie isn't the series," he said. "The movie is bigger, more epic than anything you can do in a series." To that end, he said he went out of his way while penning the "Serenity" script to make sure that it is accessible to audiences who never tuned into "Firefly." "You're not going to bring people into a movie if you're explaining all the time what happened before," Whedon said. Series was a space oater set 500 years in the future, tracking the journeys of the crew aboard the Serenity. Forthcoming pic is set about six months after the TV show left off, and centers on two passengers on board the ship who attract trouble to the crew. The studio has closed a deal with Nathan Fillion to return as Capt. Malcolm Reynolds. Other original cast members Gina Torres, Morena Baccarin, Jewel Staite, Adam Baldwin, Sean Maher and Summer Glau are also in place. Barry Mendel is producing the pic. Chris Buchanan of Mutant Enemy, Whedon's shingle, and Mendel exec Alissa Tager are exec producing. Overseeing the project for U is vice chair Mary Parent. Date in print: Wed., Mar. 3, 2004, Los Angeles
IIRC, the girl who played the Companion has a cousin that posts/posted here. Can't remember who it was though.
Firefly is awesome. I especially like Adam Baldwin's character, although Mal is pretty good, too. In a perfect world, Sci-Fi Channel would pick up the series and run new episodes (grouped together with Farscape) on Friday nights. Die, Bonnie Hammer!
Jayne -Baldwin's character was awesome. The whole series is fantastic and the DVD collection has 14 episodes.....it is wonderful. DD
got the set the first day came out. your company should contact Mutant Enemy about doing a video game tie-in with the feature film.
Just another in a long line of good shows I like that Fox hasnt got the brains to keep on the air. I also have the dvd set...and love every show. this has been a good year so far for cancelled Fox series with this news and the return of Family Guy..
'Nobody wants to hear what you're thinking.' I've already watched all the episodes that I can (disk 2 was corrupt out of the box...never saw that before). Pretty d*mn entertaining! Thanks DaDakota!
After it was canceled, I found it intresting that almost all of the major-roll actors had a multi-episode spot on Buffy or Angel.
Kaylee(Jewel Staite) would've appeared in a few episodes of Tim Minear's Wonderfalls had Fox not yanked it after 4 weeks. Maybe we'll get a DVD release of that show someday. "The hero of Canton, the man they call Jayne!"
Jewel was in an episode of Dead Like Me last summer on Showtime. She played a goth chick so she looked very un-Kaylee like.
Cohen, My disk 2 would not play one of the episodes on my laptop, but it worked fine in my DVD at home. I loaned the disks to another friend, and he watched 4 of them last night. He called in sick to work today and was going to plow through them. I think I might watch them again...they are that doggone good. DD
DaDakota...fyi... From junglejen9: Firefly. You gotta spill it if you have any additional info, please! I've heard the CW is considering bringing it back as a series, miniseries or movie for next season. Hurrah! For you who missed my message board posting, on Tuesday, Nate Fillion, Summer Glau and Gina Torres were seen coming out of one of the exec buildings at Paramount, where they are putting together the new CW unit. http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Kristin/Trans/Archive2006/060213b.html

I would also like to say that after thouroughly enjoying Serenity I finally got around to purchasing the Firefly DVD set and I absolutely love it and strongly recommended it to all my friends. They HAVE to bring this show back, I'm fiending for some new eps.
