According to Ric Bucher finley agreed to terms with cuban, meaning he will sign with a eastern conference team.

rockets here comes DA, which really is not a bad fallback plan at all now if we end up with none of these guys i would be somewhat dissapointed to have three good shooting guards on the market and not be able to get any of them

Well, we did have no money to offer them. Beggers can't be choosers - but I sure would have liked Finley.

Finley would have been a perfect fit. I'll be happy with DA though. We better get atleast one of these guys.

Would Stern allow an agreement whereby a player agreed to not sign with any team in a conference? Is this collusion?

What do you mean agreed to terms with Cuban? I thought that they waived him and that was it for finley and the Mavs?

Expound on the terms with cuban if you have the info. Not sure what terms he had to agree to with him. He was released, and could sign with anyone without agreeing to any terms that I know about.

What? He's a free agent, he doesn't need to agree to terms with his old team. And if they're paying him to go sign with an eastern conference team, that's against the rules. I'm gonna need to see some proof on this one.

Amnesty players must be paid the remainder of their contract salary but over an extended period of time; in brief, Cuban agreed to make the payments in a shorter amount of time if Finley chose to sign with a Eastern Conference ballclub...

almost sounds like a bribe lol

From what I understand, Finley had a clause in his contract that allowed the Mavs to stagger out the payments if he got cut with money owed. So Cuban could have just payed $5 million a year for the next 10 years. Now presumably, Finley will get paid his contract amounts over the next 3 years, or some other arrangement that's better than $5 mill per.

OK, so it has to do with the one-time amnesty rule. I guess Finley argued that the amnesty rule wasn't applicable to a waiver or outright cut from the team, and he should receive the normal contract terms on his payout.

Wish I had problems like this :D

good we werent going to get Finley anyways I dont want him in our conference making anyone else stronger.

He would have filled a much needed spot w/ the Suns/Nuggets and I dont want that happening.

Yeah, it's seriously a bullsh*t move. Whatever, quit being a dork Cuban, it doesn't matter where Finley goes, the Mavs are gonna blow.

Where is the link to this? There is nothing on ESPN, I don't see this anywhere. Only speculation by Bucher this is being discussed.

Why would Finley do sth like that? Cuban has no say over where he will sign. If I were him, I'd stick it to Cuban and sign with the Rox and come the playoff time eliminate the Mavs.

There is a video stream of the Bucher report, but there isn't a written article.

I think a big key to this deal is that Phoenix and San Antonio won't get him. I like Finley, but, ultimately, we weren't going to land him. If he made a deal with Cuban that means we end up with DA instead and Phoenix and SA have to suffer for it, that's ok with me. That means that 1 rival gets worse and 2 others don't improve.
