Singaporeans Set Sights on Wacky Records

Thu Oct 7, 6:40 PM ET Strange News - AP

SINGAPORE - From the fastest backward talking to stuffing the most hamburgers into their mouths, 20 Singaporeans are gearing up for a slew of wacky feats this weekend they hope will land them in the Guinness Book of World Records.

"Who can slurp down a bottle of tomato ketchup in the fastest time?" blared the news release announcing the two-day event. The current record is 33 seconds for a 14-ounce bottle.

Apart from stuffing burgers and talking backward, other events to be held over Saturday and Sunday include:

_ The fastest time to push an orange with one's nose over a mile.

_ The fastest time to eat three cream crackers.

_ The longest time a paper airplane can remain airborne.

_ Doing the most push-ups in a minute.

The event, organized by a local paper company, will be held at a shopping center in the heart of the city-state's shopping belt. Organizers plan to submit all record-breaking feats to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Previous attempts by Singaporeans to break world records have included the most people line dancing and creating the world's longest rice stuffing roll.

Just as long as you don't chew gum, you are ok there...

I hear chewing gum is legal. It's the purchase, sale and distribution of a controlled substance that will get you. ;)

You can chew and purchase gum in Singapore now, you just have to go to the pharmacy and register in order to buy it.
