No official announcement or article to post, but it was reported a while back that NBA TV would become part of Comcast's digital starter and digital preferred cable packages. They claimed that the channel would be available before the start of the NBA season, but no official date was set.

I'm not even sure how long it's been available, but out of curiosity I checked this morning and it was there. Just thought I'd give everyone the heads up.

They're showing the best games of last season all day today.

NBA TV has come with Comcast's digital cable lineup for years, as far as I knew. I switched to U-verse earlier in the year, and I've missed it.

Perhaps I wasn't as clear as I could have been. NBA TV has been available on Comcast for a while, but as part of a separate "sports" tier of channels.

I'm confused. I've had NBATV on Comcast for a long time, and I don't think I've ever had the sports package.

NBA TV is NOT part of the Digital Starter package. There is free preview going on right now of the Digital Preferred package which NBA TV is part of. The preview ends on the 18th. Sorry Guys.

NBATV has always been on the sports tier package, which includes channels like Speed, Tennis Channel, Fox Soccer channel, etc.

If that's the case then I apologize for posting false info.

But why would they ink a deal saying they'd make NBATV a part of the digital starter package before the start of the 09-10 season, put on a free preview in mid-September, and then take it away just to have to bring it back again in a month?

Don't they usually just do the free preview during the season's first week anyway?

I no longer have cable, just internet. I had NBATV when I did have cable, but a couple of friends of mine around town could not get it in their area w/o $$$, so now, NBATV is available in the whole coverage area, it seems, and with a lower tiered package. Also, the HD availability is new.
    Thanks 4 sharing

As a (longtime) (and partly ashamed) Comcast employee...

NBA TV was a part of the Digital Preferred package in Houston when Comcast took over Time Warner so as a result it did NOT change it has always been apart of Digital Preferred. Now I can only speak for the Houston market.

The deal you are reading about is likely to take place in OTHER markets where this was not the case.

There is a free preview the first week or so of the season and around the all star game but this is for the NBA League Pass in which they show all games from around the league... in order for the NBA to get you to buy NBA League pass...

    Read this again...

It's now being included in the Digital Starter, not just Digital Preferred. For example, my parents have Preferred and I've always watched NBA TV at their place. I have the Starter package and have never had NBA TV.

Yet, I've been watching it all day today at my apartment. If there's been no change, then you tell me what's going on.

Currently there is in fact a free preview going on with Digital Preferred.

If you look at other channels that you don't normally receive you will find that you have access to those as well.

All I can say is enjoy for now. For unless you do subscribe to Digital Preferred they won't be there for long.

Well that sucks if true. The article says "digital basic" which I assumed to be synonymous with "digital starter", but I just Googled and now I'm seeing "digital classic" being mentioned...which I'm not even familiar with. So confusing.

I guess a mod can delete this thread now to avoid confusion.

Just checked, and I'm getting it on DirecTV. Watching the Rockets-Blazers game as we speak.

Maybe it's a free preview, or maybe DirecTV followed suit and put it on their midlevel package (not sports package, as before), as they had previously done with NFL, MLB, Golf, Tennis channels. I thought it was odd that NFL and pro baseball would be included, but not NBA.

    Hope this is permanent.

    Damn, a preivew?

I was looking forward to this channel. :(

Yea, I have Digital Starter too, and just recently (this month I think?) many new channels.
