I remember a thread a while back asking for diffrent products or techniques to make your teeth whiter. Well I finally went to my dentist office yesterday to get me teeth bleach using the Zoom! procedure. Basically its a technique where the dentist put a strong hydrogen peroxide gel on your teeth, and a special light activation is used to break down the peroxide, therefore lighten the enamel making the teeth appear on average 8-12 shades whiter. The whole 1 hr and $500.00 proceudre goes like this...

    1. The dentist will do some preliminary testing on your teeth to see if you qualify and measure the whiteness(in shades), so you know how much shades whiter your teeth gets after the procedure.

    2. He will then measure the arch of your teeth, so he could fit a special mouth tray to expose the teeth in a way where you don't have to forcefully keep your mouth open on your own...the tray keeps it open for you while allowing the dentist to have easy access to your teeth.

    3. Then a special skin adhesive is used to cover up the gum tissues, so to prevent the peroxide from touching it once its ready to apply.

    4. A hydrogen peroxide is then ready to apply to the lower and upper teeth with a tip brush.

    5. A special light-activation called Zoom! is used to break down the peroxide. The light is held in front of the teeth for 15 min.

    6. Once the 15 min is over, the old peroxide is vacumed off and the procedure for step 4-5 is repeated 3 times.

    7. After the whole peroxide step is done, a touch of flourite is applied to the teeth to finish off the procedure.

So when everything is done my dentist measures how much shade whiter I got, which happens to be 10 shades whiter! He proved it by showing me the previous shades(using a fake model tooth) and putting them side by side next to my teeth in front of a mirror. Indeed, I was a happy man when I walked out from my dentist office. The first time since I was a lttle boy, I could finally say I have white teeth! Not sure how my teeth got so stained before...I've never smoke or drink and I brush every night/morning. I was always self-conscience about my teeth since my junoir high days, when I notice that it wasn't white...it wasn't complety yellow or anything but close to it. This is where I got a little disappointed after the bleaching. When I was brusing my teeth that night, I've notice that it wasn't perfectly white, since it didn't blend in with the foam to well...my teeth actually looked slightly yellowish compared to the foam caused by the tooth paste. Oh well, I guess its hell of a lot better then before and I'm please with the result. As long as you don't put pure white object in front of your teeth, it will look white to everyone else.
